I recently visited Northside Family Dentistry for an emergency appointment. I was seen by the younger dentist Dr. Fragile at the practice. Low and behold we had a mutual friend back in WV. Small world!! He was the first dentist I've had to explain to me what treatment I needed and why. It was very insightful and appreciated. Despite my initial thought of "Wow, this kid is too young to be a dentist." It was obvious that he knew his stuff. I ended up needing a root canal which he assured me is not as bad as the horror stories out there. He was right! No pain and I fell asleep while he was working on me. Never thought I would say that I could sleep through a root canal but I did! I highly recommend Dr. Fragile.

The best dentist I've seen ever! Dr Fragale was very tentative and extremely kind. He went over every X-ray with me and pointed out the difference between what was cavity and what wasn't, unlike some dentists just tell me I needed them and didn't explain further. Dr Fragale made sure I knew what was going on. When he numbed me it wasn't painful at all! He has great bedside manner and always made sure I was comfortable, for being at a dental office I was very comfortable! I don't know if I will ever see another dentist. I would recommend Dr. Fragale to everyone. The office was very clean and the staff were great! Ill definitely be back!

Dear "unhappycustomer",

I am terribly sorry that your perceptions of our office and your treatment was so negative. I strive to openly communicate with each of my patients and would have further discussed any of your concerns on the day of your visit had you expressed your dissatisfaction, or later at your convenience if you felt the need.

You did experience an empty waiting room, simply because your appointment was scheduled during my and my hygienist’s lunch hour as a professional courtesy to you as a fellow healthcare professional who was referred by a mutual friend. Your wait time was needed to contact your insurance provider to verify your coverage and benefits, something that is required for all new patients. Had you arrived 15-20 minutes early as we asked, you would have been seen promptly at noon.

My diagnosis was based on my findings during your clinical exam, which is why your radiographs did not show your "cavitiies". My advanced training and experience lead me to this treatment plan. Comparison of my treatment plan to that of your hometown dentist who did not examine you is not an accurate, objective or a fair comparison. Differences in treatment plans are common in the medical field and why patients are entitled to a second opinion, provided they are physically examined as well.

I offered to perform your treatment that afternoon, again, out of deference to your expressed wish that any costs incurred would fall before your dental insurance deductible reset for 2013. Along with this, our office was only going to be open for restorative care for another 3 more days before our Christmas and New Year holidays. There was no other motive to schedule you this quickly except to satisfy your wish that you expressed to our front desk.

Rest assured, your discomfort during your cleaning has been addressed with our hygiene department.

Again I offer you my time, by phone or consultation, if you wish to further discuss any misunderstanding you might have with your treatment plan. I believe this would be a more appropriate forum rather than an anonymous website. Without the liberty to go into specific detail of my clinical findings on this website, I hope that this has given you some insight into your time with us.

Sincerely,
Dr. Stephen Fragale

I had a very negative experience here with Dr. Fragale. I arrived early to my new patient appointment with paperwork filled out on hand. I was finally taken back for my cleaning 25 minutes after my original appointment time. (I was the only patient in the waiting room) My hygenist gave me the most painful cleaning of my life; and i had braces when I was younger for 3 years. Dr. Fragale came in and was very friendly and did his check. He procedes to tell me I have a cavity but won't show me where on the x ray. He also tells me I need all of my silver fillings removed and replaced with tooth colored ones. His reasoning to me for the procedure was that my tooth could crack tomorrow from the silver or even fall out and then I would need crowns and a root canal. I asked for further explaination of the procedure and was just told again my tooth could crack and fall out. I felt little trust in this practice and what they had to say. There was no explaination of why they wanted to do more procedures and used fear to convice me to seek more treatment. When scheduling at the desk the recommended treatments, I was pressured into doing it that week and was even offered for them to do a filling right then! After being offered a filling right then and there, I felt something was up. I called my previous dentist in my hometown and sent her my x rays and she said I did not have any cavities nor needed my fillings replaced at this time.

Very disappointed at this practice. Our visit was actually pleasant, and we were happy with their service, however, we had a lot of trouble with billing. I have a very good insurance (never ever had problems with them paying), but NFD billing department could never get it together! I kept being charged for a simple dentist exam (which is always included in a cleaning), only for not putting the right code. It took a lot of my time, and efforts to deal between them and my insurance. My insurance kept saying that the service was covered but that they needed the right code. Even my insurance called NFD to give them the codes they could use and still the wrong code was submitted! After 7 months of going back and forth with the bill and trying to have them submit the right code, I decided to pay so I did not end up in any collection agency, but I definitely warrant people going there…you might end up paying for something you are entitled to, just because their billing department can not get the right code!, or insist in billing for something exaggerated when it was just a simple dental exam!
