Richard Michaelson became my oncologist around 1990. I was diagnosed with lymphoma. Between the years of about 1990 to 1992, under the care and instruction of Dr. Michaelson, I received 22 or 23 full body CT scans, "in order to see if the cancer had returned or spread."

If you do a little research, you will find that the American Cancer Society and other organizations say that just one full body CT scan exposes a person to as much radiation as some of the survivors of the Hiroshima/Nagasaki atomic bombings. That means that under the care of Richard Michaelson, I received tremendously more radiation than a person should get in 3 or 4 or more lifetimes!

A significant number of those who survived the Nagasaki/Hiroshima bombings were diagnosed, some 20 years later, with brain tumors, and I, 20 years after those many, many CT scans, have also been diagnosed with a brain tumor.

Dr. Michaelson is a "nice guy," but he certainly didn't know what he was doing with regard to the CT scans he put me through. There was absolutely no good reason for my getting 22-23 full body CT scans. Even one a year would be too much for anyone!

Beware of Dr. Michaelson. Look elsewhere for an oncologist, and for that matter beware of ALL oncologists, and be CERTAIN to EDUCATE yourself about YOUR OWN treatment. "Doing whatever the doctor says to do" without checking for yourself as to whether what the doctor says to do is safe, can cause you very significant problems, either immediately or down the road.
