I am both pleased and horrified to find the review that read "not on your life", pleased because I feel that I was not alone in my dreadful experience with this doctor, and horrified because many before me and after me will continue to have similar experiences. This leads me to write my own review.

When you go to a psychiatrist, you are in need of special, compassionate help, and this is the total opposite of what I found with Dr. Falk. Nearly word for word what another patient said was true. She was beyond rude, she essentially said "get over your fantasies of ever achieving your deepest personal goals, they are never going to happen, so just give up your dreams. Get over yourself." Were I to say here exactly what my personal dream was , Dr. Falk might know who wrote this for sure, and I wouldn't want that. But if I did list my goal hear, most women would empathize strongly and immediately. Not so Dr. Falk.

Other moments that i might characterize as odd and inappropriate occurred i the brief time we shared. I think that this Dr. means well, but I think she is a troubled woman who is not able to keep her unhappy personality out of her sessions with patients. I hope that she finds peace and happiness, but until she does, do not think her a decent choice for treating patients in emotional pain..

I do not usually give reviews but a good friend of mine told me I need to warn other people. First off, she does not take insurance and charges an exorbitant fee of $575 for a 90 minute appt. When we arrived for the appointment we didn't have to wait but we were not greeted in a friendly manner and her dog was jumping all over us. She briefly apologized about her apt. not being ready because she had just recently moved in. She took my son into her office and left me standing outside the door. Her assistant was sitting at a desk trying to get their phone system working and she totally ignored me, in fact, she kept her back to me the entire time. She never said hello or asked me to sit down -- I sat down on my own and read my book while I waited. She has a very impressive website and claims to be holistic. However, she was pushing a prescription drug which has terrible side effects, including death. She told us about EmpowerPlus and JuicePlus but said these wouldn't work if my son was smoking and drinking but she said that he could take the prescription drug even though he was smoking and drinking. Then she said that if he missed a dose we would have to call her immediately due to the possibility of an extreme negative reaction such as death. We were both horrified. She said he needed to change his diet and needed to eat more meat but did not make any other nutritional or supplemental recommendations. Also, she was extremely rude. She asked me if I had any questions and when I did ask one she told me to mind my business. I was totally put off by her attitude and my son absolutely despised her and said he would never go back to her again. I would advise everyone to beware. It was a total disappointment. She showed absolutely NO compassion at all. She was very brusque. I definitely have doubts about her qualifications. She did want my son to go for blood, urine, and saliva tests so it is possible that she is a good diagnostician but we will never know because her demeanor is a major put-off and she charges another $375 to get the results. We were not there for the full 90 minutes but were still charged the full amount. Out of the 3 reviews that are listed, I think only the negative one is a true review. I wouldn't be surprised to find out that she wrote the other two herself.

Despite her qualifications and terrific website, my care under Dr. Katharine Falk was poor and life-threatening; I now suffer immensely. PLEASE take into consideration the following that occurred with me prior to your visit with her:

Dr. Falk failed to identify my deteriorated mental state as having resulted from antidepressant WITHDRAWAL during a time when the internet is INUNDATED with this information. During my acute withdrawal phase, the treatment I received from Dr. Falk was psychologically damaging, condescending and manipulative.

"YOU HAVE A PSYCHIATRIC ILLNESS!!!" She LITERALLY screamed at me, among many other important things I can not mention here.

During this state of psychological agitation, I was left to her decisions; my mind literally in her hands. She prescribed a new drug that I later found was NOT approved in other countries due to the dangers of the drug. She FAILED to discuss any of the side-effects or withdrawal issues that could potentially (and did) ensue with the drug. She further would not agree to help me OFF the drug without the introduction of ANOTHER DRUG she was ready to introduce me to for the treatment of an infection-based illness she THOUGHT I had with NO SCIENTIFIC BACKING.

In addition, she failed to consider my financial concerns, expressing anger and frustration for my simply having called her office (24hrs in advance, at least) to simply see if meeting with her for a half hour was a possibility.

She advised me to STOP seeing a practitioner I'd been working with for four years (who had proven highly helpful) and, instead, chose to work with another who is currently under legal investigation.

Note: I had seen her while stable, and all was Okay! It was when I needed her MOST that she failed.

In short: My health and state of mind were NOT considered.

PLEASE beware.

Dr. Falk is an amazing psychiatrist. Extremely compassionate, constructive, caring, proactive, intelligent, and intuitive. I've recommended her to others who also have been helped enormously by her. She is always exactly right in her diagnoses and treatment.
