We were referred to Dr. Melvin for hearing problems our daughter was having. She is 26 years old, and has Down Syndrome. He found fluid in her right ear, prescribed 15 days of prednisone, and told us to come back in a month. We went back, she still couldn't hear in that ear. He decided that she didn't know the difference between pressure and the excruciating pain she was experiencing. Then he stated that it must be TMJ. He said if that wasn't the case, he didn't know what the problem was. He referred us to an expert in TMJ who, when we called him, had closed his practice and moved out of state. Her regular dentist says it isn't TMJ.
There may be other doctors in the practice who are more tuned in to individuals with special needs. Actually, there would have to be!

They went out of their way to make me feel special and respected, and were very sympathetic to my situation. I've never seen more kindness and empathy anywhere else. It seemed like they were trying to rush my appointment and were annoyed to be helping me. It was obvious that they wanted to be somewhere else. I never had to doubt their qualifications. They made their credentials completely obvious, which made me feel a lot safer.

Yes, I've never had to worry about them missing any important information
Was there annoying music playing while you waited or during your visit?
No, if they had music on it was very soothing
Did this provider ever take personal phone calls while in the appointment room with you?
He/she would never do that! Their full attention is always on me.
