My experiences with Dr. Ventura are the absolute worst that I have ever experienced with any medical provider. After he prescribed stimulant drugs to my son and he had adverse reactions, I called and left a message for Dr. Ventura. It was returned by his nurse, with whom I spoke in detail. She said that she would speak with Dr. Ventura and I would receive a call back. My call back was again from the nurse. She said that Dr. Ventura did not think his adverse reaction was from the medication. I should point out that there are warnings about this medicine causing side effects similar to those that my son experienced listed by the drug manufacterer. I was unable to speak directly with Dr. Ventura at all.

Later, another child was ill with the flu. He received Tamiflu earlier in the week from one of the nurse practitioners, after which he recovered. After several days, he bottomed out and was very ill again. I brought him back to the pediatrician, Dr. Ventura, and waited over an hour to be seen. I saw no other patients in the office whatsoever. It is possible there were some in other rooms, but I saw no one else, and overall, the office seemed fairly slow. After over 45 minutes, I peeked out and asked a nurse how much longer we would be waiting. She looked over at Dr. Ventura's desk and said hopefully not too much longer (prior to this my son opened the door and walked down the hallway twice... both times I saw Dr. Ventura sitting at his desk).

Finally, about another 20 minutes later (totalling over an hour wait with a sick child), Dr. Ventura came in. No apologies whatsoever for the long wait. He peeked into each of my son's ears, and barely listened to his chest and back. When I say barely, I mean barely. Literally the stethescope was in his hands for a total of less than 15 seconds (probably even less than that). My son was struggling (he is two afterall) and Dr. Ventura made no attempt to calm him so that he could check him out more thoroughly. He didn't try to lay my son down, who obviously at 2, after waiting in a small dingy room for over an hour, was restless, to get a good look at him at all. My son wouldn't open his mouth to let the doctor look at his throat, so the doctor didn't even try to look.

After this pathetic physical (not sure I would even classify it as a physical), he said that he has a virus and that his cough and general ill feeling could last 3 weeks or more.

Today, my son has been running a 103 temp all day. I called in to the answering service to have the on call dr call me. I wasn't at all happy with the physical yesterday and wanted to get a second opinion. Just my luck, Dr. Ventura was on call.

I left a message for him to call me at 1:17pm. I didn't get a return call from him until 5:11. Never have I ever had to wait 4 hours for a return call from an on call doctor. Unreal.

Needless to say, he was less than helpful on the phone. Apparently I had taken him away from whatever he was too busy doing to bother returning phone calls.

I will never, ever, see this doctor again. I would not recommend him to anyone.
