I am a health care professional. I do not expect preferential treatment as a HCP, but I must admit I have always been treated very well by virtually all physicians when I need care. The same was true by Dr Ramsdell's staff...they are excellent, friendly and professional. However, Dr Ramsdell, while very professional and confidant at our first meeting, became defensive and even hostile when I questioned his proposed surgery. After his inflammatory remarks to me, using tactics that I found manipulative and bordering on unethical, I became very uncomfortable and did some research. He does not have a fellowhip in MOHS surgery (I was to have MOHS surgery) and some experts in the field of MOHS (including two out side of Austin) suggested he was over aggresive, and not as well ecquipped to do MOHS surgery, as several other fellowship trained MOHS surgeons in town.

The procedure he had planned was far more radical than any of the other fellowship surgeons I consulted with recommended. The MOHS procedure I had done took 5 minutes, and I was able to return to work that day, unlike the radical resection Dr Ramsdell proposed, with several days and perhaps a week of convalescence.

Dr. Ramsdell is highly thought of by the medical community outside of other plastic surgeons, and even 2 physicians in the general dermatology community recommended him highly. He is willing to do probono care. It is for this reason that I have given him 2 stars rather than 1. However, if you are having MOHS surgery, I strongly suggest a fellowship trained MOHS surgeon, of which there are several here in Austin.
