My stepfather decided to enter this assited living facility with his wife. Shortly before their arrival date his wife fell and was admitted to the hospital. She seemed a bit confused and was admiitted to a wing in Avery Heights with supervised nursing care. Shortly thereafter she went into a wing with dementia patients. When we visited her she seemed to be way above the level of the other patients. My stepfather tried repeatedly to get her into the unit he was renting. We had to come from the Cape to bring her to his unit after three months just for a visit. They would only asscort her for an additional price. To us she seemed to be fine and couldn't understand why they wouldn't allow her to join him. Checked into other facilities, the one on the Cape was willing to have the two of them together right away. My stepfather preferred to stay in the area and found Hamilton Heights. They were willing to try them in the same unit. Checked on his wife at night for the first few weeks and then stopped after it was apparent she was in no danger of roaming. Happy to say they are doing well. She is organizing her own trips to functions outside the facility and partaking in the events they offer. My feeling about Avery Heights....very rigid, not willing to try to accomodate their clients. On the day we moved my stepfather out a supervisor was right there to give us the finally tally and collect the check. Church run..........hmmm.
