I have heard excellent things about the living facilities for seniors, but my mother was at the rehab center some years back and the experience was not good.. She had a major stroke and went there for rehab. A few days in she had another stroke. Though she could no longer swallow, they came with food for 3 or 4 days, took it away, and charged for it. It also meant I could not call in hospice, since it was obvious she would die but they claimed she just refused the food. At one point her pain meds were changed and the nurses forgot to add the new prescription. She was in great distress but they refused to talk to me because they had a meeting. At that point I had hired 24 care to be with her and they called hospice for help. Luckily one of the actual patient helpers, a CNA, checked the chart and told me what had happened. My mother had a doctor's orders that forbid heroic measures, but they moved a type of ventilator in case she had trouble breathing, against my (her legal rep) orders. I was shocked and told my hired helpers not to allow them to use it. I should have dropped it outside the door but I was grieving and in shock. I told the head nurse that my mother had wanted serious pain management and the facility called the state and accused me of trying to kill my mother! They came and checked and dismissed it. A year after she died I called the state omsbudsman but they wouldn't do anything.
