I am writing this review not just as a family member but also as the Administrator of Hanover Hill. Having seen firsthand for the past 15 years, the excellent quality of care and home like environment provided to all who reside with us, it was without hesitation that both of my grandparents received their skilled rehabilitation at our facility. Both of them continue to positively reflect on their short term stay with us and how it helped them to return home to their very active lifestyle. They have fond memories of not just meals shared together in the dining room, but also their compassionate nurses, assistants and therapists.

I've been places before where they were argumentative and angry, so I was nervous that I would encounter that here as well. Instead, they were very calm and understanding the entire time. I could tell they really care about everyone who visits them. They are so kind and caring, and they stay open way past their closing time to help anyone who needs them. They wouldn't deny anyone that needed help. I know I can always count on them. I love how attentive they are here. Even when notified that they have a personal phone call, they always wait to take it later. Their full attention is always on me and it makes me feel special. As soon as I walked through the door, I was immediately greeted by the friendly staff. They went out of their way to make me feel special and appreciated. I left with no question unanswered. They were so thorough with their answers and really went above and beyond to ensure I had a great understanding of their nursing home.

My grandfather was paralyzed and bed ridden. The last 5 days of his life were spent in agony, he lost his ability to speak and needed morphine, we had to constantly ask for pain meds as the staff did not regularly come in and since he could not speak we had to be his voice. There were a few Nurses that were very nice, such as Dee and ...Gwen. However for some of the staff it was business as usual.

There is no hospice room for a person that is going to pass away, so we had to cram chairs into a small area to comfort him. They were very rude to us when we asked if there was a single bed open so that we could spend time with him privately. It is not fair to the room mate or family to spend a loved ones last moments this way!!! When he passed the family was standing in the hallway to wait to say their goodbye's and we were told very rudely that we needed to clear the hallway....well if there was a separate room for a person that is going to pass it wouldn't have been an issue. So we were forced to mourn as a family in the public activities room....they were not very accommodating at all.

One of the positive experiences was the food and beverage manager. He truly took the time to make sure that we had everything that we needed. He offered to set up a special area for us to eat and brought over coffee.

My grandfather worked for Ted Lee, the president for 6 years and that is why he wanted to go to this nursing home because he said that Ted would take care of him....However I can not help but strongly feel that he failed!! Ted has a thing or two to learn about how to have empathy and compassion for people that are about to lose a loved one. It would be nice if he did whatever it took to make at least one room available to be a hospice room so people can grieve as a family and not in public. I know that it is too late to do anything about our situation, but hopefully I can help prevent someone from going through what we did.

I posted this review on their Facebook page and now the option to write a review is gone, along with my feedback....I guess they are nervous that more people will provide negative feedback about their facility. I would strongly advise not to use this facility!!
