I have had both of my parents at The Hughes for one reason or another over the past 10 years. The first time my father had a fractured hip and was doing very poorly at a NJ facility. We transferred him to Hughes and after several months of rehab.,he was able to move into an apt. with my mom. My father's second admission, several years later, occurred when he could no longer manage at home. He verbalized how he always felt safe at the Hughes, especially as he became more and more disabled. He considered many of the staff his friends. He passed at 89 y.o.
My mom had a severe stroke 2 years ago. She never regained the ability to walk and was total care from the outset. She also liked the staff and considered them friends. The staff was very responsive to her needs and always contacted me immediately if any issues arose. They were very attuned to my mom's and her family's wishes, always double-checking before following through on any of them. She passed 2 weeks ago at 91.
The Hughes has a special program where two wonderful rehab aides continue with a transitional follow through program after patients have maximized their rehab potential. This made for a smooth transition for nursing follow through and prevented loss of gains made in rehab.
Hughes isn't the fanciest, or newest, but I consider it the best.
