My Grandmother and Aunt were at the facility for Alzheimers and Dementia till their passings. The staff and doctors were marvelous and treated both with dignity and always welcomed us no matter what time of day or night we visited.
My mother has been a resident at Kane in McKeesport for the last 7 months. Over the past several years, she has gone for rehabilitation at five different skilled nursing facilities after hospital stays. Kane is by far the best in many regards. The staff is responsive and attentive in every situation. Questions and concerns are immediately addressed. There is a physician for each wing that makes rounds 4-5 days per week. My mother says, "They really take good care of me here". Rehabilitation staff are great. I've seen many other people that I know from the area with family here, and they all concur with my opinion. Hands down, the best.
Overall the service is good; although it is sometimes difficult to get someone to answer the phones and their process should be automated to avoid any potential errors or miscommunication.
Respone to (Daughter Aug 5, 2015) previous review. I agree with you. My mom died there from aspiration. My best guess is that she wasn't checked on for a while and like usual, the call button wasn't within reach. It is much like many other places, a warehouse, and everyone just goes thru the motions. If you try to advocate for your loved one they lable you. This was the very, I mean very last resort placing her there. Look beyond the initial smiles. Be proactive. I am sure we could have sued however, I wasn't going to do an autopsy.
my mother is at Kane, I must say the aids on 3floor are excellent, caring and loving, but some of the nursing especially Eric the head nurse, is terrible. no bedside manners and always over talking someone. I could go on and on. don't send your love ones there.
While visisting my mother on Sunday, she was crying continuously and in pain from skin itching and had hives all over her body. An aid came in and rubbed some kind of cream on her, but it did not help her pain. It took over two hours before anyone came back and gave her somethng for pain orally. This is not acceptable. I will be looking in to alternative places for her to stay.
The facility is understaffed and poorly run. Managers are rude at best. Uncooperative in answering questions to my satisfaction. They take the attitude that family members, with legal rights under HIPPA guidelines, have no place in the decision process regarding care. Don't admit your family member to this facility -- it will be nothing but frustration for you and your loved one.
