To families with loved ones who suffer from respiratory/pulmonary diseases,

PLEASE STAY AWAY FROM WILLOW MANOR!!!!!!

A few months ago my loved one was referred here by Lowell General Hospital after a sudden hospital stay due to her COPD and Pulmonary Embolisms. We were told that they offer a wonderful rehabilitation program that would help her with her high flow oxygen needs. They told us that it would be great for her and would help her to transition home. Unfortunately, at the time we felt comfortable with Lowell General Hospital’s recommendation and she agreed to the rehab program with pulmonary care at Willow Manor.
The “outstanding clinical care delivered by highly skilled practitioners in a comfortable setting” that we were promised could not have been more of a LIE!! By comfortable setting they really mean a tiny sweat filled 90 degree room filled with three beds and windows that cannot be opened more than an inch due to the nails locking them down. The care is actually delivered by unqualified aids that know absolutely nothing about the patient and their condition. The same aids delivering trays of food (which is disgusting and did not at all apply to her specialized diet) are the same people responsible for helping patients with their needs. The RN’s spend their time sitting behind a desk chatting it up with one another. If you ask them for help they act like you are the one bothering them. Don’t worry they get up from their desk maybe twice a day to give patients medication and that’s about it. Do not drink the water/ice that is placed in commonly used dirty coolers covered in mildew and orange slime. The buzzer the patients have on their beds had a wait time of over 20 minutes. Someone with a respiratory disease needs immediate care not a wait of 20 minutes for an aid to assist them.
From the very first night at Willow Manor my loved one was scared for her life and safety. She found herself having a hard time catching her breath in the middle of the night. Such a hard time she thought she wouldn’t make it. The aids who came to help her just told her to “relax and take deep breaths” while they boosted up her oxygen. No call to the numerous family members that left their phone numbers to let them know about the incident! That is the SPECIALIZED care she received, being told to calm down. She continued to be afraid for her life for the entire length of her stay. She knew that the staff was unable to care for her. From that day on her self-esteem dwindled down to nothing. The specialists pushed her to work out (by using a hand rowing machine) even when she clearly wasn’t ready. This place was more a depressing, dismal prison then a caring rehab. I would continually ask staff to keep an extra eye on her yet I would be in the room with my loved one for more than seven hours at a time without seeing a single staff member!! What if something happened during that seven hours, would anyone even know?
Please if you are considering Willow Manor for your loved one that needs rehabilitation specialized in pulmonary care DO NOT COME HERE. They will be left a hot sweaty room with little more than an oxygen mask and TV. The staff doesn’t know how to respectfully and professionally treat patients who are suffering with these types of diseases. I would never want someone else’s loved one to suffer the way that mine did and that is why I took the time to write this.

I went at 6:30pm for a visit. The place is outdated, both floors had a distinct odor. A cat roaming the halls so if allergic to cats this isnt the place for you either. Appeared under staffed for the number of patients. 3 staff members on the floor. Carpets were all stained, definitely needed updating. Two and three people in a room, small PT room. Halls are long, narrow, and dark with plastic carts on wheels to store gloves, masks. Didn't even see any sanitizing dispensers on walls. The staff bathroom was even out dated. I only found 2 people who were not in a bed. The neighborhood is also not a very safe place. Best part about this place was the rooftop deck and the entrance. The 4 staff members were also friendly.

No, no one seemed to notice I was there
Did you feel like this provider's office was understaffed?
Definitely, they had one person trying to do everything
