The services I recieved were adequate but the professionalism from the staff was unacceptable. If you are looking for a full service office, look elsewhere. Dr was great, office staff very uninformed and unprofessional. This office asks for payment up front but I still have not gotten my ins claims processed and it has been 3 1/2 months since my 1st visit.

After 4 years of traditional medicine that did nothing for me but cause addictions to pain medication it was time for something new. I am a 45 year old grandma and want to have many years with my husband, children and grandchildren. The path I was taking through western medicine was not only not going to help me achieve that goal, but was actually making the chances worse.

In 2004 I had a patch of dry skin show up on my right hand that would not go away. I went to my primary care physician like a good little girl and he sent me to 4 different dermatology specialists including Missouri University Hospital. All of witch agreed I had psoriasis but none of which could help. The treatments were ranging everywhere from psoriatane, which made me lose a large portion of my night vision to metheltrexate (which had little to no affect) to Embryl. By this point I was getting pretty frustrated as the psoriasis had now covered the palms and fingers of both hands and was covering the bottoms of my feet. I switched my primary care to Dr. Brian Neely.

I started having horrible chest pain after 2 months of using the Embryl and ended up in the E.R. having nitroglycerine popped in me while being rushed via ambulance to Cox South Medical Center in Springfield, MO. There I was greated by a heart specialist who came in, pushed on my stomach after I had thrown up 3 times and announced it wasn't my heart but a stomache problem, but to make sure I had 5 days and $30,000 worth of medical tests done that showed absolutely nothing. I was discharged in as much pain as I came in with because my insurance company wasn't going to pay for anything else.

Two months later I went in to see Dr. Neely because I was in horrible pain and simply could not take it anymore. One of the first things he noticed was that my lymphnodes were swollen in my neck and under my arms. He had me admitted to our local hospital where I stayed for a week having tests run that confirmed I was beginning to show signs of lymphoma, a rare but serious possible side affect of the Embryl. I was transferred to Cox South once again where it was discovered through MRI that I had 2 seperate conditions, RA and polycondritus. The polycondritus is a swelling of the lymph nodes and is an auto immune disease, same as RA and soriasis. The rhematologist treated me once agian with metheltrexate but to no avail. I was also by this point being treated for depression (big suprise). The rhematologist finally gave up because we were not seeing any results and sent me back to my primary for pain control (narcotics). Dr. Neely was so good to me and tried so hard to help but only fentynal could alleviate the pain and of course that had to be increased because my body would get used to the medicine and it would stop helping so in no time on was on a 100 mcg/h patch with oxicodene as a suppliment for when the pain was really, really bad. My family wanted to help but were also frustrated because we had tried everything. I was at this point dying. I had stopped working and was trying to get accepted by Social Security Disability and long term disability through Kansas City Life, our companies disability insurance company.

January of 2008 I went to see Dr. Laurie Mechem of Wellness Concepts in Springfield, MO. She started talking to me about my chi and yin and yang and I don't know what else BUT, she said she definately could help so I was all in. For the last 12 months I have gone weekly to Dr. Laurie and had acupuncture treatments. She is also treating me for detox to get off the Fentanyl and has lowered by dosage by 1/2 at this point. Dr. Laurie cares about her paitients and really wants to see results. She is extremely knowledgable in her area Eastern Medicine and can help with anything from a toothache to cancer. I know that not everyone has access to Dr. Laurie but there are specialists in your area that can help. They can give you back a life worth getting out of bed for.

I am currantly receiving Social Security Disability and am still fighting for my long term disability. I am also beginning a 1 man campaign to try to get Missouri Medicare to pay for acupuncture under part D of the medicare plan. The reason for part D is because this is my medicine and it is much less expensive that the ones I get from the pharmacist. Dr. Laurie charges $60.00 an hour for treatment. Some may think that is expensive, but go to your doctor, see him for 10 minutes, maybe, and then pay on the way out. I guarantee $60 won't seem like much then and especially when you are able to celebrate holidays with your family for the 1st time in years because you can actually get out of bed and go.

Thank you Dr. Laurie, for giving me my life back and for giving me hope that I will continue to improve. We both know I have a long way to go, but at least it is in the right direction now.
