I was very disappointed on one of my last visits there. I have taken my pets to ESAC for over 30 years and this was the first time I left unhappy. We adopted a dog from the Humane Society and as part of the adoption process, we received a free veterinary examination. I was very pleased that ESAC was on the list of places I could go to since I preferred to use my regular vet service. When I took him in, the receptionists were as friendly as usual, however that is when the positive experience stopped. Dr Carstenson was the vet. He entered the room, did not even say hello, did not introduce himself or acknowledge my presence. He briefly examined my dog, never talking to either the dog or myself, never making any comments at all. I tried to tell him the dog had been ill and I had to take him to an emergency vet for a respiratory condition and I did not feel he was better. He was also on antibiotics. He made no comment when I told him - nor did he listen to the dog's lungs or check his nose/throat. The dog had been neutered a few days prior and he didn't even look at the surgical site until I asked if it looked okay. This whole process took ~3 minutes! He then left without comment. It was a very superficial exam, very mechanical. I was very disappointed - this was not a random appointment, I was a regular client, I would be back for future (paying) visits. To me, this was an important exam - I needed to find out if the dog was healthy, to take care of the respiratory problem and make sure he would not make my other dog ill. Instead, I left with no further information or clarification of the dog's health. What a disappointment. I would not recommend Dr. Carstenson to anyone who cares about their pet.
