I have emphysema, and after using oxygen for the past 7 months, and doing nothing but compliment this company --- to my general practitioner doctor, my pulmonary doctor, nurses and everyone else --- Unity Medical has hired someone new (DIANNE), who says she's now going to limit me to 6 bottles of oxygen per week. ( I've been using 16-24 bottles per week). She wants me to use only the oxygen concentrator when I'm home, using 70 feet of tubing. I told her this would not be practical --- I'll be tripping over the tubing, my wife and even my dog will be tripping on it (every time someone trips on it, I have the nebula ripped from my face --- not pleasant). She does NOT care. She says I am costing HER money, and that SHE is going to limit me to the 6 bottles a week.
One of the few things I can still do around the house is cut the grass (using a lawn tractor). That takes 2 bottles. In the summer, in Florida, the grass needs to be cut 2-3 times per week. So, she's giving me enough oxygen to cut the grass --- after that I guess I'm supposed to use the concentrator in bed, then get up in the morning and sit next to the concentrator until it's time to go back to bed. I want more out of what's left of my life than laying in bed and sitting in a chair next to the bed (oh, and cutting the grass, using the 6 bottles this woman will allow me). When I've explained this to DIANNE, she reiterates --- YOU'RE COSTING ME MONEY, AND THAT HAS TO STOP.
I am looking for a new provider, and by the time this is published, I'm sure to be using a different company --- BUT be forewarned, Unity Medical is fine when you're using very little oxygen (and their profits are looking good), BUT when your disease gets worse, and you need more oxygen --- they want NOTHING to do with you !!!
Unity Medical, in Port Charlotte, is a TERRIBLE company to deal with. Their customer service is an insult. They SHOULD NOT be an approved provider by Blue Cross, Carecentrix, Medicare or anyone else !!!
There are plenty of providers in the area. Avoid using Unity Medical, at all cost.
