Nevada Board of MFT Examiners staff and board have limited information to help MFT consumers navigate the process they pay for. Expect huge delays in receiving information on your application while your submitted records are lost or kept out in unlocked area's accessible by the public. You'll schedule appointments, and the office will be closed when you arrive. You'll also have helpful information that should be available from staff, forms and website withheld to keep you hoop hopping. In my experience, this agency refuses to assume any responsibility for its areas of incompetence and antiquated process. Its website was last updated in 2008 and they refuse to provide any relevant information on how to file a formal complaint. Dial into a board meeting and you will hear the 1980's era self-important board speak of bureaucrates who demand to be called "Dr" or "Madam President". Mind you, these are not medical doctors or high ranking officials, they are therapists and educators, who have unfortunately totally lost touch with what that means. Board meetings are spent dismissing petitions, slashing experience and saying no to waiting applicants who filled out the wrong forms or have no access to their list of approved supervisors. This is done under the false guise of being "protectors of the public" and upholding "legislature" .Legislature is word they really enjoy using whenever they cannot answer a question. They may also advise you to use "google" to get the answer they don't have. There seems to be a few voices of reason on the team roster, but they are quickly subdued by the more oppressive leadership. Burn out within the team is as evident as the "us against them" stance they take toward the consumer is. If you dare bring experience from outside the state of Nevada, they will dismiss you all together. I was told that they would not accept a current MFTI transfer from California. That's actually illegal, just like withholding information about state funding, process, staff credentials and complaint process is. Be prepared for some punitive old west politik, but know that there is a growing body of consumers taking action against this agency who desperately needs some fresh blood in its entitled leadership.
