The nurses are great and would love to treat the patients if they were allowed to. There is one major problem at the facility. The main ER. Physician assuming he has a degree is against medical treatment and assumes anyone in pain even with test showing the reason are drug addicts. You are better off with a bottle of Tylenol and waiting for a doctor's office to see you or just drive to Louisville don't waste your time. I hate seeing the place fall apart or one rude Er physician and an administration that won't get rid of him. Before he was her the hospital actually had great care and the staff was extremely friendly .
Breckinridge Memorial Hospital. The Emergency Room Doctors are rude to patients and are slow to see patients. Headaches are treated as drug addicts recently I was given two tylenol and sent home. When I went home my blood pressure was elevated, I had numbness on one side of my face, and blurred vision. Another time I went because of chest pain. I was in the exam room for one hour before the Dr. examined me. I was given a aspirin, nitro twice only by the nurse. My blood pressure was 202/108 the same Dr. sent me home with still an elevate BPof 178/102. And he only saw me once and that was when I unhooked the monitor and found him. Because of headaches they do not treat you as if there is a possibility of anythings else happening. My family has a history of heart attacks, high blood pressure, strokes and diabetes. I am not the only patient that has been treated this way. They have given patients IV antibotics in the waiting room, after 5 hours of waiting and he was an scheduled outpatient and one patient that also had migraines was given a pain med and sent home, later to return to find out she had a bleed in her brain and was rushed to the hospital in Louisville.
We are a rural county and one of the largest in KY. Three schools are located in one area on the only major highway through the county, trucks carrying most anything pass these schools, the other schools are scattered through out the county with emergency equipment several miles away, there is a natural gas plant, two farm stores that have chemicals for farms, there has been an spill at one of the plants the hospital did not have the medication to treat this accident. Rough River State Park is located in our county not to mention that the Ohio River borders the county.
It would seem that it is necessary for us to have a Trauma Emergency Room due to the number of populated areas in our county. The closest Emergency Center is Louisville (60 miles away) Elizabethtown (45 miles) and Owensboro (50 miles away. We have a very small airport which is in disrepair so it is not available. For this area of KY we would be in sad shape should something happen at the schools, farm stores or at the natural gas plant. The only thing that we have going for us is if we have a crisis the volunteers are well trained and keep up with that training. As for as Doctors we have 4, a peditrian and a NR practioner, plus the hired ER Doctor. Should we ever have an accident of any size we would be in trouble. Oh, we do have a helicopter service but it serves several counties.
Due to the fact that we have few doctors and at the present time jobs are few and far between. It would seem that it would be wise to give grants to those who would like the medical field.
They're always able to answer simple questions over the phone. They only make me schedule appointments if necessary. They were late a few times to my appointments. I wish they had made more of an effort to be on time. I didn't have to wait at all after I arrived for my appointment. They were running right on time, which is a really big deal for me.
