Beware of this hospital. My daughter was recently admitted to this hospital after a suicide attempt. It was the first time she'd been hospitalized or treated for psychiatric problems. When a child attempts suicide and you take them to the emergency room, the police are called. The officer told me she wanted to have her admitted for a 72-hour hold. I was told I could either do this voluntarily or they would call CPS. My husband and I were distraught and of course wanted help for our daughter so we admitted her voluntarily. When she was taken to Dominion, we were told she would likely be there 5 to 7 days. At 7 days, we were told "a few more days" so they could monitor her medication. The doctor on the other hand, told my daughter a couple more weeks so they could monitor her behavior to see if she was bipolar. They also wanted to put her on a mood altering drug after only spending minimal time with her each day. It seemed with each passing day the projected release was delayed and my daughter was getting more and more anxious. The communication with parents is minimal. We had to call the doctor or therapist for updates rather than getting a daily update from them on our daughter's progress. On the 7th day, we said enough and told them we were taking our daughter home. The place is so dismal. I realize they have to protect the patients from themselves, but it seemed more like prison than a hospital. I felt like they were treating my daughter like a juvenile delinquent instead of a patient. If you have another option for your child, definitely try to go another route.

It was not easy to reach them in an emergency. I had to call several times before I finally reached them. This is a dangerous facility, do not go there, you may not get out

I was somewhat uneasy the entire time I was there. I was never able to fully relax. I wasn't greeted at all when I walked in the door. No one seemed to notice or care that I was there.. They left me completely alone for long periods of times and were indifferent to my presence.

I would never recommend this hospital.

I voluntarily checked in and was ushered quickly and unceremoniously through the admissions process without any explanation of what to expect.

There was a printed daily schedule stuck on a bulletin board. The entries were vague. If I didn't ask questions, I would have not known what I should be involved in. The treatment was very poor. I received a cursory physical (open mouth, say Ah, check ears, listen to lungs and heart). The psychiatrist saw me for 10 minutes each day and just asked me how I was feeling. The therapist spent more time with me but only asked why I was there. That was it.

The food was like prison food. On Friday, scrambled eggs, bacon, muffin and a tiny scoop of oatmeal was served. No too bad. Lunch was a hotdog and limp, lukewarm fries. Dinner was a small (and I mean SMALL) chicken breast with canned carrots and a sliver of apple pie. Saturday and Sunday were billed as continental breakfast. That was made up of a few bags of bagels and cream cheese, cereal, hard-boiled eggs and pretty sorry looking danishes .

Unfriendly staff and if you didn't talk to them, you would rarely have any interaction with them. They ran the place like wardens, counting heads hourly including shining flashlights in rooms at night.

No "real" treatment was provided. I was so happy to get out of that place after three days. I feel sorry for those that have extended stays.
