Cold and performative. Doesn't seem to have any real sense of what the patient is experiencing on an authentic emotional level--very hard to connect with given her arch tone of voice and inching towards sarcasm in her responses. Asked I come in 3 times a week, and when I told her it was too much for me as a 7 months-pregnant woman and wanted to come in 2 so I could spend some time taking care of myself, she told me as I was being "childish". When I expressed anger at her for calling me childish, she told me I had rage issues that I could only figure out with her. Inferred I was a narcissist who doesn't care about people even though I pretend I do (I'm not sure where this came from as I was very honest with her about difficulties I had with my own narcissistic family, feeling pressured to be OVER-caring with individuals who had not treated me the same) Told me after I talked about a negligible fight with my spouse that it was actually about "withdrawing" from her and how I wanted to go down from 3 to 2 sessions a week...,,that's when I knew I couldn't keep up this claustrophobic farce with this woman...Oh, and told me I'd never be able to improve my marriage without coming in to see her. It seemed she wanted to create a lot of dependency for me to keep coming in, so she could keep buying her fabulous shoes. I felt very good about my decision not to return. Do not go to her if you want to find your own independence, a sense of solidarity with your therapist, honesty AND kindness and not only a breakthrough but solace from therapy (which I have now found through a wonderful, straight-shooting but KIND therapist who focuses on EMDR and proactive coaching). She wants to make it all about her and how the patient is seeing HER and feeling about HER, which I suppose is psychoanalysis' method but it did not work for me at all as someone trying to individuate. The only positive was she is good at dream analysis, but she usually made the dream about her...
