Island View's program saved our lives – and broke the despairing spiral that plagued our troubled teenager. The therapeutic programs that Island View offers focus not only on the individual child, but on the all-important family dynamic, helping us to better realize our strengths and weaknesses and perhaps most importantly, how integral we as a family are to the recovery process. Island View and its phenomenal team provided our child and family with the tools that we all need to lead healthy and productive lives moving forward. Are we perfect? Not by a long shot. Do we struggle daily? You bet. But thanks to Island View, we're now are able to live, love – and talk about our fears, dreams and hopes for the future.
Thank you doesn’t begin to express our gratitude.

I am an Island View graduate. I spent over a year in the program and graduated in 2006. In life I have struggled with a number of depression, self-esteem and trust issues. I have gone to the lows of wanting to cease to exist and not getting out of bed for days on end. My family loves me and did everything they could to try to make things better, but when it became evident that they couldn't do it alone they sent me to various programs to get me the help I needed. I attended a wilderness program for 8 weeks and then a different RTC in southern Utah. I spent a number of months there, but did not make real progress. Because I was well-mannered, the staff and therapists there did not seem to really understand that I had problems. Once I left there, I reverted back to where I was before quickly and that is when my parents send me to Island View.

I did not want to be there at all. I had grown content to wallow in my own misery and have life pass me by. I was sure it was just a matter of time before my life would end, and I was looking forward to an end to the monotony. When I first showed up to Island View I did not leave the dorm for weeks, I sat in a room and did nothing for days on end, but finally I began to go out, and attend (if not participate at first) in school. Slowly but surely I began to make progress, opening up to the possibility that being happy, could in fact, be okay for me that I could be happy and not feel guilty about it. People could care for me and love me and I could care for them and love them as well. My story at Island View is a long one and won't all be written here but the difference maker for me was the people there. Island View hires smart and sharp staff, teachers, and therapists, and the program is a good one, but more than that they hire individuals who care. They have the motivation to help those who need it, and have the skills to do so.

I won't say that your child will be magically cured if they are sent to Island View, but I can say with all honesty that there is not a better place they can go to make progress. The environment there can be hard, but it is one that will help to shape you for the better and make you stronger.

Since leaving Island View I have had some tough times, life isn't all sunshine and dandelions, but the tools and truths I learned at Island View have stuck with me. I see where I am in life and I'm pleased with it. More than that, I am happy. I know this could not have been possible without the amazing staff, teachers, and therapists at Island View. I literally owe them my life and my happiness.

I recently returned to Island View and saw a number of the same staff and teachers that were working there when I attended. They are still there five years on because they can see the potential and the goodness in people, and seek to draw it out. I am so grateful for them in my life, and so are the people who love me.

We made the decision to place our son in the hands of Island View with a heavy heart. It is not an easy decision. Within a few weeks we knew he was in the right place. Island View provided a safe platform for our child to find out more about himself and the reasons for his non-consequential behavior while also attending school and gaining back insight and self-esteem. They have some of the best, most dedicated staff working with the kids. Island View also works to help repair the family and are excellent at teaching parents about how to cope and change while their child is away and upon their return. We will always be glad we chose Island View for our son.

I graduated from Island View in 2009 when I was 17. I was there for a relatively short amount of time, but it was time well spent. It was certainly helpful in terms of getting my life together, but it was also a very enjoyable experience. I didn’t realize this during my stay, of course, but I feel nostalgic when I look back at my time there. Being sent away was kind of a shock at first, but I soon felt comfortable because Island View had a very nice and welcoming environment. I met a lot of great people, some of whom I still keep in touch with after three years. The milieu therapy was very helpful for me because many of my problems had to do with trouble relating to others. The open environment helped me learn how to better understand other people and behave more appropriately and maturely. The staff there was great and was easily just as helpful for me as the therapists. They are with you 24/7 and are very patient and understanding. Our team had all types of people, each with their own unique issues that they brought to the table. Yet, the staff was able to cater to everyone. Although I did have some closer friends, I felt like I knew everyone really well and I could easily have had a great time with any individual on our team.
I was sent to Island View when I was a sophomore in high school, and I left as a junior. My life was obviously very difficult for me during that period of time, but I knew it was important for me to keep up with school and that doing so would pay off eventually. One of my main concerns about being sent there was that it might affect applying to college. But the school was very accommodating for anyone that had extra considerations like I did. I was taking an AP class that year and I was able to still get credit for it at Island View. I was also taking a foreign language that they didn’t offer, but I was able to earn credit for that as well. Island View effectively helped me keep up with all my work and continue my track towards college. After returning home, I finished 6 more AP courses and got accepted to 6 of the 8 colleges I applied to. If being sent away impeded on my progress in any way, it was definitely worth it because there's a good chance I wouldn't have even finished high school with the path I was on.

"Our daughter went downhill so rapidly during her freshman year in high school that we knew, without any doubt, that we had to do something drastic. We hired an Educational Consultant, and after interviewing us, our daughter and her various doctors, she recommended Island View and two other RTCs to us. We traveled to Utah, toured all three facilities, and strongly felt that Island View was the best match for our daughter. Island View helped to turn her life around. While she still has issues to this day, she came home after Island View, excelled in high school, got admitted to her first choice of college, and graduated 3.5 years later with honors.
We firmly believe that this could never have happened without the skills she learned at Island View.
