The #1 most important thing to know about Serenity Steps is that is a PEER SUPPORT CENTER. It is NOT a professional mental health center. Most of the time, It is run by sensitive and supportive staff. All staff member have or have had emotional issues of their own--in the best case scenario, this allows them to be able to relate to the members. And the members can relate to the staff. It's all about mutual peer support. Empathy is important.

Staff members must really be dedicated and BELIEVE in peer support. It's not the type of job where only a paycheck matters--people matter. If a staff member doesn't whole-heartedly believe in peer support--they shouldn't be working their.

I've seen good staff workers who really try to learn as much as they can about the "concept of peer support" and who actually go above and beyond the call of duty to help provide peer support, and I've seen staff workers who obviously only care about making it through the day doing a little as possible--just working for that paycheck.

Workers come, and workers go. Some are good, some are bad. Some last a week or two. Some manage to hold on for a few months. A couple have lasted a few years. It's not an easy job.

I'm giving this review 5 stars for now because Serenity Steps is the best we've got for now. Hopefully, someday, all staff workers will put their entire heart and soul into their job--and membership will once again grow.

It was really difficult to get an appointment with them. I became very frustrated. When I first opened the door to their office, I noticed a faint but distinctly foul odor. It wasn't unbearable, but it definitely wasn't enjoyable. I felt a little pressured to buy products, but it wasn't overbearing. Still, I wish they had been a little more professional. I would never ever recommend them to anyone I know. I would advise everyone to stay away. They are also unfair to their staff who work there. It's an unhealthy place for people with mental illness go get help and support. They need to have some one new run the place and they rethink letting good, valuable, hard working staff go. They let staff tell members that they are sick of the place, don't like working there, they have no friends and want to harm them selves. I find this very unprofessional of staff to do in front of members. They need to conduct themselves in a professional manner in and out of the work place at all times.
