I am very pleased with with how I was treated. You know when you first go to these kind of places it can be so uncomfortable!!!!
If your on the fence to talk to someone about what you may be feeling.....take the leap... I bet you'll realize how helpful and kind this group of professionals are.
Avoid this place at all cost! Dr. Starr is was extremely unprofessional from the very first visit. You wait for 2-3 hours in the waiting room on a regular basis to see him. When you do see him his office is a disaster and he spends the majority of the time with you just shuffling through papers. When we mentioned a specific disorder that our son had been diagnosed with he was not even aware that this disorder existed. Next he will do little to confirm the diagnosis. He is only concerned with prescribing drugs, many different ones. He had no interest in attempting to work with our son on the disorders, only more drugs. Every follow up visit resulted in more waiting, shuffling papers and upping the doses of drugs that were not working. He does not want to listen to our son nor us for that matter, he just babbles and repeats himself over and over at each visit. The final straw for us was when our son went for a visit without us and Dr. Starr basically bullied and berated our son for the whole time he was there. Our son was devastated when he returned home. He went to this "so called" professional for help and came home a mess. I would give this guy ZERO stars if I could. AVOID! Find another more professional doctor.
I went with my son to this facility. He first saw the Nurse Practitioner. My son is a recovering addict who already had a Suboxen doctor and Therapist. He was told by the Nurse Practitioner that he would have to see theirs and stop seeing the one he was seeing. From the get-go he was treated as an addict, not as a person. Prior to this visit, he had been diagnosed with Panic Disorder-Starr prescribed Xanex(in a lower dose than the former prescription of Klonopin). The few visits that he had, he had to take a drug urine test. They found Valium in his system. Explanation:prior to seeing this place, my son was seeing another doctor..Due to insurance, he could not get his prescription until 3 am- our 85 yr.old neighbor felt bad and gave him 2 valium to calm him. This took place 5 weeks prior to the drug test at Starr. The Starr Nurse Practitioner told him that valium takes 1-6 days to leave your system and if it came up again she would decrease his dose of Xanax. Our research,Starr's lab, and another psychiatrist stated that it depended on the person, metabolism and could take 3 weeks+.The Nurse Practitioner then prescribed him a new Suboxen and said that all Pharmacies would carry it. Walgreens, our Pharmacy, told us that it was new and had to be ordered and since it was a controlled substance, they had to order it the next day and would be in sometime the following day. No other Pharmacy had it. This left my son with no Suboxen. He started to go through withdrawls- he called Starr several times, left several voicemails for the Nurse Practitioner ,I also left a voicemail-nobody returned his calls or mine. My son went through 30+ hours of withdrawls due to the negligence of this place. Finally he got through to the receptionist who couldn't understand why no calls were returned and she also had in her possession an emergency script just in case it did not come in. Walgreens called a few moments later. So if you are a recovering addict- stay away from this place -there is no compassion or support or knowledge. They will treat you like scum and place you on the bottom of their list for everything. So much for healthcare!
