I’ve been taking my daughter to Dr. Stember for well over a year as she struggles with anxiety. I (and her teachers) see a massive improvement. He has been humorous and thorough in his approach to helping her. He has been helpful in pointing out ways in which I as a parent have been a contributor to her condition. It’s not easy to hear, but I want to help my daughter, so I’m grateful for the pointers. He is not a therapist who’ll placate you and not help your child; he’ll challenge you and your child and the results are evident.

As a long-time colleague of Dr. Stember, I can attest to his breadth of knowledge, ethical practice, and adherence to theory and best practices. He's willing to accept particularly challenging behavioral cases, effectively work with personality disorders, and demonstrate solid therapeutic responses to a variety of presenting problems.

Dr. Stember was my (then) 7-year-old son's psychologist for 3-4 months and it did not work out at all. He used sarcasm and a stern and loud voice that scared my son who was already suffering from extreme anxiety among other things. He was extremely critical of my and my husband's parenting. Every session ended with my son and us more upset than when we arrived. He seemed oblivious to this and asked us to feed his parking meter every time we left.(?!) He also refused to provide his tax id or social security number which prevented my submitting for reimbursement from our insurance company.

I found Dr. Stember to be an extremely helpful resource. We had been to a number of providers that practiced general counseling to no avail. I don't know why there are not more cognitive behavioral providers in my area. My child is much better thanks to him. I was very impressed with the fact that all my questions were answered. I was skeptical about therapy at first, but they really went out of their way to make me feel at ease. If I knew someone in need of counseling I would definitely recommend them. They were friendly and really went out of their way to make me feel comfortable. I would see them over anyone else in the field. They are definitely an expert. I felt very comfortable in the waiting room. The temperature was perfect!

Absolutely! I knew I was being cared for by an expert!

They were decent, but not very affordable

Dr. Stember's office was comfortable and welcoming. I could tell they took a lot of time making sure it was presentable. His advice is always helpful, clear, concise and completely unbiased. I would definitely recommend him for adult individual or youth therapy. His office is conveniently located in downtown Salem with plenty of nearby parking in a safe and lovely area.
