Buyer Beware: Dr. Theis is running a "puppy mill" of custody evaluations from his office in Southtown San Antonio. He has an assistant who monitors up to four people in real life and who knows how many more online, relying on paper-based forms when the APA custody evaluation guidelines call for multiple forms of interviews to be used. From my exeperience along with several other people who have found me and told me their experience with him, I believe this is his pattern: Dr. Theis finds a story that is easy to tell and makes the "data" fit what he wants to tell. In my case I was able to have another PhD custody evaluator review the file and her biggest comment was "it appears that your information was not reviewed or used in any substantive manner." Of course, as she pointed out, custody evaluators have to make a call of what's best and someone is always unhappy in the outcome. However, there is a basis of understanding in the process that the evaluator should be fair and unbiased, but Dr. Theis consistently creates black and white stories when in reality, it's very rare for one parent to be "perfect" and another parent to be "evil." He does not follow the best practices of using online testing for personality testing, instead choosing to hand-score each test and makes it very difficult for people to have another person examine the scores (I had to get a subpoena to see mine). He is harming kids while lining his pockets and telling false narratives. DO NOT AGREE TO USE HIM IN YOUR CUSTODY CASE. DO YOUR RESEARCH FIRST!

I would love to give less than 1 star because this man should not be practicing. He is and unethical and detrimental as they come. He is absolutely corrupt and unconcerned with the child only the check. He will conveniently forget any important details and any good merit for whatever side does not have enough money to buy him off. He should not be in practice he should not be a PHD and unless you have $7,000-$9,000 to buy his testimony you will be out of luck and he will destroy your family.

Dr.Theis was the best thing that ever happened to me. He was always attentive with the best advise to help me help myself. I have recommended him to others with no hesitation

Dr. Theis appeared uninterested in each session. He did not listen and did not repeat the information from the session back accurately, thus proving he was not listening. What he determined as normal parent / child behavior, the real therapist my child's doctor sent him to called emotional abuse. We went to him hoping to find a way to get the other house to see how their behavior was negatively impacting the child. Instead he rallied around them and excused all behavior. He went so far as to blame the stepmom for all the environment in the mother and step father's home. According to the child, he outright attacked the stepmom in his individual session. Had Dr. Theis paid attention, he would have known that the child is a stepmama's boy and he lost all credibility with the child in that moment. The child indicated he had considered hurting himself and Dr. Theis insisted that he not be allowed to attend sessions with a therapist. Thankfully, all 4 parents went with his actual doctor's recommendation and had him attend therapy. There it was determined the issues with the other house environment were valid issues. The therapist worked with everyone and we were able to get him back to a happy child. Dr. Theis should be ashamed of himself for not helping the families that come to him. He very clearly does not care about the children and only about the paycheck. We were able to fix the situation on our own using other professionals with him actually working against us!

This guy is worse than the criminals he works for, He is just a paid lackey for defense attorneys. Do not waste your time unless your a criminal, then he is the right guy for you.

The Dr has ZERO credibility! He was paid to "poke holes" into a judge appointed child evaluations. He claimed that it had "inconsistencies and flat out lies". The original evaluation report took 6 interviews to be completed. The Dr didn't interview me once or asked to view any of the evidence. How can anyone come up with a credible conclusion without meeting anybody, unless it's obviously biased or the Dr is saying he reads minds!

Dr.Theis carelessly put together report. Rude. Inaccuracies in report. Credited me with things that happened at ex's house when there was proof my ex admitted to them in the Family Wizard.
Recommended ex be allowed to move child from school and friends she had gone to since Kinder. Child is straight A's and GT.Only benefit is now my ex won't have to drive as far when my house is where we lived when married. He chose to move far away.
No concern for the mental health of the child. Biased.
You may not know or trust my circumstances, but why take that chance. There are others out there that you can choose from. Your lawyer may tell you that 50% (the losing side) may not be happy with the results. Look at his reviews. Not a single one was positive. Isn't that suspicious. And he was available when others weren't. Really sorry I didn't pay attention to the reviews.

Dr. Theis showed no concern for my daughter and only seemed interested in keeping her with her mother whom had been alleged by my daughter to have been present and participated in holding her down when her boyfriend molested her as told to me by my daughter. Dr. Theis was simply appointed to evaluate living conditions for custody arrangement and said that was all he was concerned with until he told me the Judge gave him new instructions after I had reported the alleged incidents and abuse claims by my daughter and provided recordings of her telling what happened and statements from witnesses whom she had also told when I wasn't around or aware of it. Dr. Theis said that he had his instructions which now completely biased the case for my ex-wife and conflicted with his appointed duty. He told me that if I did not say my daughter lied to everyone and they would have to agree, and if I did not continue to pay and see him for months until he was convinced that I believed my daughter lied, then I would never see her again. I would not say it and he has made sure that I have not seen my daughter in almost 2 years while she is allowed to live with the alleged molester whom he knew already had a history of abuse in Hawaii. He has ignored all concerns of child abuse and s*xual mol*station of my little girl and I know this is illegal. He should have his license revoked for unethical behavior and failure to execute due diligence and he should be criminally charged with neglect in his failure to report concerns of s*xual abuse as required by law.
