Many people have trouble getting the proper amount of rest and there can be numerous causes for that. Statistics show that 45 percent of Americans say they have trouble sleeping, which affects their daily activities.

We all experience varying amount of stress from our careers or personal lives can that can result in disruption of regular sleep patterns. Short term sleep loss is normal, but long term sleep trouble could be a sign of other health problems.

Most of us are familiar with the aggravation of feeling tired during the day, and not being unable to get anything accomplished because of a lack of sleep.

Less traditional sleep method

If you are someone who struggles with falling asleep, or tosses and turns all night long, or gets up often during the night, maybe you should try a less traditional method of sleeping: a hammock.

Hammocks have been around for a long time in the history of man. They continue to be used all over the world for some very logical and good reasons. In fact many people are switching to hammocks and giving up their regular beds.

Sleeping in a hammock is not the answer for everyone, but for some it could be a lifesaver that could end their nightly battle to get to sleep, and help reduce the amount of stress they have.

Concerns about sleeping disorders

If you have serious concerns about not sleeping, you should first check with your doctor to find out if you have the symptoms of a sleep disorder that could be the main cause of your problem.

Health benefits of hammocks

Many people are using hammocks because of several known health benefits. Of course, no one can guarantee that you will get a good night’s rest because sleep is related to your general health. People with better overall health tend to have less problems getting to sleep.

Here are 4 reasons to try using a hammock:

1. You may fall asleep faster

People who never used a hammock before have tried it and found that they tend to get comfortable more quickly, so they often fall asleep much faster.

2. You could sleep deeper and longer

Being in a cradled position with gentle rocking motion has been shown to improve brain wave activity, which often results in a person being able to sleep deeper and stay asleep for long periods.

3. You might breath easier

Hammocks can allow the sleeping person better access to fresh air than they get by lying prone in a bed.  This is because of the openness and design of hammocks which can increase airflow.

4. You may get relief from any aches and pains

People who have tried sleeping in hammocks often find relief of many of their aches and pains that they normally suffer from while sleeping on a mattress. The real advantage of hammocks is that they allow you to rest in a natural position,  free of any pressure points on your body. This can bring relief to anyone who suffers from body aches or back pain.

Getting enough rest every day is something that we all need in life. It is an important part of your overall health and it is a daily requirement that you don’t want to sacrifice for any reason.

Fears about hammocks

Some people have been known to develop slight fears about laying in a hammock because they think it might collapse or they might tip over.  American made hammocks, which can be made out of quilted or rope material, have spreader bars, and while they are usually hung in the back yard for short resting periods, they can be tipped over.

Types of hammocks

Of all the types of hammocks, the best kinds for sleeping in are the Brazilian or Mayan hammocks, which do not have spreader bars, and that makes them more secure. If you are considering getting a hammock, you will want to find out more about the kind of materials they are made of and the different types of hammocks that are available, so you can find the best one suited to your personal tastes.
