We may start to notice wrinkles, fine lines and dark spots and soon others notice too. We're aging. And honestly, only the very lucky get to experience it. So maybe we start out trying to appreciate it. But honestly, we'd probably prefer to look like we used to. There’s a lot of hype around anti-aging products, though and many of them don’t give the promised results. And how can we know which do and which don't? Fortunately, some natural remedies may actually deliver on their promises.
Egg white is full of great anti-aging compounds, such as omega-3 fatty acids. It also contains zinc and plenty of protein. By tightening skin, it may help with a look of firmness and smoothness. Another great property of egg white is its ability to pick up free radicals, reducing skin damage so there will be fewer signs of aging over time.
To make an egg pack, use one egg white, one teaspoon of lemon juice, and ½ teaspoon of milk cream. Mix it and apply it to the entire face. Leave it on for 15 minutes, and then rinse it off with cold water. Use this treatment every three days as an anti-aging treatment. It sounds a little gross, we hear you, but many high-end products incorporate egg whites for this reason.
Honey offers numerous health benefits, including some for our skin. It’s a natural moisturizer, and it’s full of antioxidants. They help repair skin damage caused by free radicals, so our skin may look younger and healthier over time. The intense moisturization that honey provides may also help slow down the signs of aging, such as wrinkles and fine lines.
Apply one to two tablespoons of honey generously all over the face and neck, and take a minute or two to massage it in. Then leave it on for 15 to 20 minutes, and rinse it off with water (in the shower works great). Repeat every day or every other day for best results.
Almond oil has emollient properties that may help skin stay supple and healthy, and it may also improve complexion. Rosewood oil may help in the prevention of crow’s feet, fine lines, and wrinkles. Used together, they may be a powerful anti-aging combination.
To make this treatment, choose one tablespoon of almond oil and one or two drops of rosewood oil. Blend them thoroughly, and massage the skin with the oil blend in a circular and upward motion for two or three minutes. Wash the mixture off after an hour, but if it's tolerated, some choose to leave it on overnight.
Lemon juice contains a lot of vitamin C, which may be good for many types of anti-aging treatments. Vitamin C has been used in anti-aging serums for years and may produce significant results when following a skin regimen that uses it.
For this treatment, choose fresh lemon juice. Apply a few drops of the juice directly to areas of the skin that have dark patches, blemishes, or other concerns. Leave it on for 10 or 15 minutes, and then rinse it off. Skin treated with lemon juice will be more photo-sensitive, so be sure to use sunscreen if heading outdoors and never go out in the sun with lemon juice on your skin.
As a superfood, avocado provides a number of health benefits. It contains both vitamin E and carotenoids, which help protect the skin from the damage caused by free radicals, potentially reducing fine lines, wrinkles, dark spots and other signs of aging.
For this treatment, use one avocado. Remove the pit, and mash the avocado into a paste. Use the paste as a face mask, and leave it on for 10 to 15 minutes before rinsing it off. Massaging the face with chilled slices of avocado is also an option.
There are a lot of great options for natural anti-aging remedies. Choosing the ones we like best or that seem to work best for us is the key to having healthy, glowing skin that looks and feels younger. As with all things, be sure to discontinue immediately if you have any kind of reaction to the remedies and seek immediate care from a physician.
But really, there's more to successful aging than skincare and appearance. Aging with confidence happens best when we choose a great attitude and keep an eye on choosing good health over temporary pleasure. And no natural remedies can give us these.
