Some Tips for Surviving that Holiday Party

Do you dread that holiday party because you are afriad that you will overeat and put on more pounds? Here are some tips for avoiding problems this holiday season:

1. Eat something before the party. Eat something healthy like fruit and vegetables before you go to a party. You will not be as tempted to overeat or choose the wrong foods. Also, you will look like you have great self control when you don't fill your plate several times at the banquet table.

2.Fill up on fruit and vegetables at the party. Many parties have fruit and vegetable trays and salads. Fill up on these items first. You will be less tempted to overeat and less tempted to choose less healthier, diet damaging options.

3. If you have an addiction to food, it is best to try to avoid that food. Some people lose control with chocolate. I have problems with potato chips. I try to avoid eating them because "once I start, I can't hardly stop".

4. Try to avoid eating or choose very small portions of any starchy foods or products made with flour or sugar. These types of foods tend to help one pack on the pounds.

5. If you do choose dessert, eat it with other foods and limit the desert to one small serving.

6. If you eat poorly or overeat, do not beat yourself up. It is the day to day eating habits that make you fat or thin. Be good to yourself. Rome was not build in a day.

7. Remember that you are only a failure if you give up.
