twenty to twenty-five years ago had a cast removed for broken leg treated at hospital in Lancaster Wisc.

My son broke his arm sledding. We took him to the ER and had x-rays taken and found that he had a buckle fracture. They explained that it wasn't bad, but we had to follow up with the Neosho Bone & Joint Clinic to have it casted. Unfortunately, I didn't have insurance at that time, so I called to make the appointment and asked if they could give me a rough outline for how much it would cost. They said between $150 to $1,000. She said that I would have to pay 1/2 of the cost up front and they would work with me on the remainder of the balance, by paying 3 monthly installments.
We got to the appointment. Waited a short amount of time and were called back to the room. The doctor came in and was very friendly. He didn't need to re-set his bones or anything, he just went staright to casting it. It took approximately 20 minutes. He told us how to take care of the cast and set up an appointment for 4 weeks to have it removed. We paid $498 that day and was told that was 1/2 of the cost.
Four weeks later, we return to have the cast removed and before they would even let us sit down in the waiting room, they explained they would need the rest of the balance (the $498) and an additional $600 for removal and built in appointments, you know, just in case something was wrong down the road.
I asked about the 3 monthly installments and she had no idea what I was talking about. Needless to say, we walked out right then and there. I called up Freeman in Joplin and expalined the situation. They were more than happy to get my son in that same day and would only charge $200 for the removal, even though he had never been there.
I think it was despicable what they pulled. How is 20 minutes worth a doctor's time and material for a small boy's arm to be casted worth that much?? And why would they have me set the appointment and tell me that they would work with me on the payments? I have not paid them another dime. Now they are threatening to sue ME! I would highly recommend going ANYWHERE else but this place.
