Dr. Saferin pursued his undergraduate studies at West Virginia University in Morgantown,
then went on to earn his medical degree from Meharry Medical College in Nashville, Tennessee. Upon completion of an internship in general surgery at Cincinnati General Hospital, Dr. Saferin continued his training in general surgery with a two-year residency
at Toledos Medical College of Ohio Hospital. This was followed by a two-year residency in plastic surgery at Wayne State University Affiliated Hospital in Detroit, Michigan.
Dr. Saferin is certified (since 1983) by the American Board of Plastic Surgerythe only specialty board recognized by the American Board of Medical Specialties and supported by the American Medical Association for certifying plastic surgeons. He is also a fellow of the American College of Surgeons, the leading professional surgical organization. Membership signifies that a surgeons formal instruction, surgical competence and ethical
conduct have undergone a rigorous evaluation and are deemed consistent with the high standards established by the College.
