Over about a 1 week time period, I noticed my mom's mental alertness, cognitive behavior, etc. diminishing quickly. I thought it was the pain killers she was on for some nasty injuries she got in a fall. Two days later, she was laying in her bed with her mouth open and trying to talk, but was unable to. I called for the nurses, the CNA, etc, and asked why she was like this. They all "passed the buck" and some said she was fine! Huh??
My mom was taken to the ER at UCI Medical Center. They found that she was very sick! Her hemoglobin was extremely LOW at 5.3 and should have been at least an 8. Her electro lights were also very low. The ER doctors were discussing her "wishes" with me and prepared me for losing her.
She was moved to the ICU and given blood, more electro lights, and the IV she was given in the ER. The next day, 3 doctors called me into a type of family lounge to have a meeting about my mom. The main doctor assigned to her said "Your mother was allowed to become SEVERLY DEHYDRATED". Then they went over possible procedures she might need.
What really got me was that the ER doctors said that Carehouse said my mom "was always in this condition." What?? I was shocked and assured the ER team that claim was false.
If my mom recovers, she is not going back to Carehouse
Thank you Carehouse Healthcare Center! My brother, Bob C., has spent the past three months at Carehouse. In April 2014, he had an infection with his knee replacement. The knee replacement prosthesis was removed, and a spacer was put in. Once this was done, he was offered an opportunity to be treated at Carehouse. There, he has been provided with wound care, pain management, IV therapy, to name a few. He gives high marks to all of the staff who have assisted him. Carehouse, in conjunction with his surgeon and doctors, have worked closely as a team to both save his life and his knee. The staff at Carehouse is comprehensive and includes a variety of specialties. All staff including the nursing, physical therapy, and other staff have been attentive and caring. Social services at Carehouse have been in close contact as well. Kudos to Carehouse! Our family is especially happy that our brother has been given a new chance thanks to Carehouse.
