My niece does not have insurance so I needed a. Low cost dentist for her to have her front 4 teeth looked at as they have not came in after her baby teeth had been pulled in over a year. I googled and found good reviews about summit dental. I called and the staff was generally friendly. They accept walk in's and I was able to make her appointment immediately. The location was clean, and they had a room specifically for children to watch movies and play. On the phone when I made the appointment, I understood them to say, the cleaning, exam and X-rays were $50 which was actually incorrect after I got there. I may not have understood the process clearly. Basically, they expect you to have not seen a dentist in a while and will have a laundry lust of items needing to be done, so they itemize it all out with the costs and the you can chose a-la-cart what you can afford. $50 gets you the "consultation" so they can provide you the laundry list, and X-rays. They promote a $25 exam on their website but after speaking with the staff- this is a "limited" exam. I called reputable dentist to get a comparison of prices and most charge $150 for cleaning, X-rays and office visit. When it was all said and done at summit- it costs $116 so your basically getting about a $35 break. Once they examed my niece- they told me she needed her permanent molars sealed, a cavity filled, cleaning and to do a gingervectomy which is to slice the gums to allow her front teeth to come thru all which would have totaled $765. They offered me 20% off (they have a coupon on their website) without having the coupon in hand. I got the cleaning and cavity filled. I took her to castle dental For a second opinion on the gingervectomy. They took larger X-rays and showed me she HAS A 3rd baby tooth UPSIDE DOWN between her 2 front teeth and referred me to a dental surgeon as just doing the gingervectomy won't resolve it! Kind of a big thing for Summit dental to miss completely. When I called and complained- the mgr initially tried to blame it on me not requesting the full exam. I DIDN'T request anything- I brought her and told them the problem and relied on them to give me the full solution not taken in consideration the cost!

I love that they never cancel their appointments last minute here. The waiting area is not too modern, but there was a seat available. It would be nice if the TV's were placed for better viewing (my neck was almost tangled, watching the TV here), but I've never had to stand. I wouldn’t refer any of my friends or family here. I'm not sure if I loved them that much to be honest.
I definitely don't trust their advice. They seemed only concerned about themselves. I took a second opinion and the second doctor told only less than half of the treatment plan suggested by Summit Dental - (8550 S. Braeswood, Houston) is necessary at this time. I tried to get the X-ray's of my daughter from this place (so that I don't have to pay a second X-ray charge at the other Dental office and my daughter need not get exposed to X-rays once again), but they were non co-operative. Just wasted my time and money here.
