My mom received great care under medicare where she was checked on every 15 to 20 minutes. Restraints on bed, bed lowered and floor with mats protected her from falls. When switched to medicaid/private care, I didn't see anyone in her room for 3 hours as the nurse took a 3 hour dinner break. (1 hour off site, 1 hour eating, 1 hour locked away) Refused to provide any of the items provided under medicare to restrict severe falls. My mother eventually fell, broke her hip and was informed that she might have been laying on the floor for a while, up to 2 or 3 hours before anyone checked on her. Died 3 days later. Death ruled accidental, not natural as result of fall.

We put my mom here because she needed 24/7 care. This was our first and hopefully last time we have to deal with a nursing home. Her care was horrifying. She had a terminal disease so when she went in she was able to do some things herself but after a few weeks she was totally dependent on the staff and they let us all down. There was one RN who would bring her her meds, put them down in front of her and then leave even though he was supposed to stay and watch her swallow them. I would visit my mom every day for 4-5 hours. A gentleman a few rooms down would yell for a nurse sometimes for 30 minutes several times a day before anyone would tend to him. My mom would ask me to help him because she couldn't stand to hear him yell out in pain and yell for the nurses. My mom used to say they didn't like her. It was hard to know for sure. Her meds were never given to her on time. They would see me walk down the hallway and race past me to give her the meds she should have gotten hours before. The more we complained the worse they were towards her. One time I walked into my moms room and she was wet from her chest down from edema. The CNA was just finishing with the other woman in the room and when she walked past my mom she said she would get to her in a little while. I knew that meant around 2:30, right before the shift change. It was 11 am. I stopped the CNA from leaving the room and insisted she take care of my mom right then and there. She did but with an ugly attitude. Another time an RN brought her medicine in. My mom was using the bathroom and needed help. The RN left the room to call a CNA to help her. He was right there and should have helped her himself but didn't.
I would not allow my worse enemy to go there. If you don't have a choice, then someone should be there with the patient 24/7 to be sure they are being treated right and everyone is doing their jobs.
I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone! I should have figured it out on my first visit when the male receptionist didn't acknowledge my presence upon entering the building.

To all the people who want to go here, beware.
My grandfather has Alzheimer's Disease. He kept falling and having heart problems, so after much feud between my family and the doctor; we came here.
The odor was horrible, and there was a room that scared the crap out of me due to creepiness; but my best friend's father had gone to several nursing homes that were horrible. In comparison, this one seemed good. All they really needed was to take out the horror movie dolls and use air freshener. But then I learned the truth.

He was unhappy and scared about being there. They said this often happened to these patients, and we had been reassured they would take care of him. However, on his1st week; we experienced issues. They always sat him alone and he never got to see his special learning aids like they said he would. On to the 2nd week, we were called. They said he probably couldn't stay here because he was "assaulting" the staff and causing a ruckus; trying to escape.
Let me put a mental picture in your head. Due to his falls, he couldn't stand anymore and was forced to use a wheelchair. When he could stand, his height was 5'2. He weighs less than 100 pounds, is easily injured (btw, we are pretty sure the staff lied about one of the bruises on his arms. They said he grasped him 1 arm so hard he bruised himself. Though he has thin, easily hurt skin; I'm going to let you guys think about that for a minute), and sleeps more than a cat. WHAT INJURIES COULD HE POSSIBLY CAUSE? They told us that they knew how to take care of these kind of things. We went to the office and found out that he has just been kicking them. He shouldn't do it, but come on! You WORK IN A NURSING HOME! How much trouble does an 87 year old, bedridden man who could fit in a keyhole cause?!? You said you had alarms on the doors. Is him trying to escape a shocker to you?!? He's scared and confused. He doesn't know anyone. I'm disappointed by what happened. It seemed like there were nice people involved in a cooked up situation. Now, they randomly moved him at 7 at night. He had to be sedated. Now he's going to wake up even more scared and confused. They didn't even give him a full 2 weeks. I don't want him to be there now. The fact that you just want to 'pass the problem' is sick. If they had tried to help him, they would have found the sweet, little old man who always had a huge smile on his face, had a love for blueberries and gardening, read the newspaper for 2 hours every day even to the point where he couldn't read it anymore (he liked Dennis the Menace). Thank you for "doing your best" and "trying to help" and uncover the true person that I know still lives inside. Thanks a lot Palm Gardens.

p.s how do you make the star rating -5?

I've been to one or two places that had a really bad smell. I was worried I would encounter it here too but I didn't notice anything. I am always so impressed with how quickly my calls are answered here. I am never put on hold for a long time and love knowing that if I have a quick question I won't have to wait a half hour through terrible music to get it answered. The equipment at this nursing home was current and safe and I knew that my loved one would be receiving the highest quality of care. They listened closely to everything I was telling them, and showed a lot of attention to detail. I've never had to worry about them forgetting something or not reading my information correctly, which I've encountered at other places. I got an appointment quickly. I've never had to wait too long.

This is a top rated nursing facility in Tampa. I have visited many of the other nursing facilities in Tampa and find Palm Gardens of Tampa extremely friendly, efficient, and flexible. They put their residents safety and care as the first priority. My mother has had excellent care by the nurses, therapists and assistants. The facility is staffed with well trained and extremely positive people. The nurse at Palm Gardens identified a medical problem with my mother after it had been overlooked by doctors in a nine day hospital stay with numerous doctors caring for her. Thanks to Palm Gardens, the medical problem is being resolved and she is getting her life back to normal. We chose Palm Gardens of Tampa to continue her long term care.

I wouldn't send my dog here! I think their "nurses" just come in off the street and tell them "Yes! I'm licensed!" They nearly killed my mother three times while she was there. They never check the residents blood sugar before giving them insulin.
If a resident rings for something, the wait time is far too long. Especially when I would go out to the desk and see a bunch of them standing around gossiping.
The administrative staff sucks! Their only concern is the mighty dollar.
Please!! If you love your family member, consider other options than this horrible dump!
