I'm only giving one star because there is no option to give zero, or less than zero. The facility is new. The staff is horrible. My husband was brought in at 8:30pm from a local hospital who provided all the necessary paperwork. We were brought to his room by the EMT's who got him into his bed. After they left I waited about 10 minutes, no one came in. I went to the nurse’s station and asked the aide what happens now. She said she'd come in and talk to my husband. She gave him the TV remote, the nurses call button and told us who was on staff that night. I mentioned he needed his meds and asked if she had the paperwork, she said they gave it to her and the nurse would look at it. Before I left I asked how to get water, if there were bottles I could buy, she said she'd bring in water and she did. I then left, it was ~9:00pm.

The next morning when I arrived my husband was in a ball in the bed. I asked him what was wrong. He said he was in pain, nauseous and didn't feel right. I asked him if he got his meds. He told me he did not. I went to the nurse’s station to ask about the meds, they said they were on their way. I went back to his room. A few minutes later, he had a petit mal seizure. I told him the meds were coming. About 5 minutes later he was having a grand mal seizure. I rang the nurses bell and held his arms down so he would bruise them on the metal side rails. They knew he was an epileptic, not seizure pads were put on the bed though. Even the ambulance had seizure pads on the gurney. I pushed the call button again. No one came in. After that seizure was over I went to the nurse’s station to let them know. Apparently, it was time for breakfast because food was out and three of the people were standing around talking. I explained what happened and they said they'd be right in. A nurse’s aide came in and I told her he had a grand mal seizure, she said, "Oh, I'll get a nurse". REALLY? Then a nurse came in about 5 minutes later, after another grand mal seizure, and gave him his meds. She did say, "what's going on hon?" he was able to speak a bit, I filled her in. She had him follow her finger with his eyes and lift his arms and legs. That was it. No one administered his meds when he arrived even though the paperwork clearly stated he needed them and I stated at least 3 times upon arrival that he needed his meds. After all of that, I told my husband, "I am not abandoning you, I need to go home and make some phone calls to get you out of here." he understood and I left. Less than two hours later I was back. I went to his room to check on him and to tell him the insurance company told me to have him transferred back to the hospital. I then went to the nurse’s station, stood there for about 60 seconds while they were talking, not business, not an emergency, just chit-chat when one of them looked at me and I said, "I'd like to discharge my husband. Can someone call Atlantic Ambulance and arrange that, he's going back to the hospital." The woman said, "that's handled by the social worker" then pointed to his door, turned and walked away. The social worker remained in his chair, leaned toward the door so he could see me and from his chair said, "what do you need?" I told him I wanted to discharge my husband and would like someone to call an ambulance to get him back to the hospital. He muttered affirming it would be done and went back to his desk. He couldn't even come out to speak to me. WOW! This space was recently renovated and touted as the premiere sub-acute care facility in the area. That is so far from accurate there is no number large enough to quantify. I did not expect a ticker tape parade upon arrival, but I did expect someone to at least learn who the new patient was occupying one of their rooms. I also expect a facility to be on top of new arrivals and meet their medical needs. They neglected to give him his meds which resulted in a petit mal and 2 grand mal seizures.

I don't expect anyone to cater, however, compassion and reasonable care should be a given at places like this. At the very least, I do expect staff to be humane. I CHOSE this facility of all those who had available beds. BIG mistake on my part.

It has now been two days yet no one has reached out to find out why we were there only 14 hours. If I were the owner, I’d be concerned. Negligence in administering medication is a big deal. Negligence in responding to a call button may not be as big a deal, but once you have information about a seizure, and there were three, that should raise concerns too.

To wish them ill would be wrong, therefore I will only intend that if any of these people are ever in need of care they receive exactly the same care and compassion they gave my husband.

I vehemently do NOT recommend this facility. You would really have to dislike a person to the point of hatred to bring them here.
