This Board-certified avian veterinarian may know a great deal about bird care, but she is at least twenty years behind in her knowledge of reptile medicine, which she includes on her card in the list of critters that she will see. Her procedures are unorthodox at best. She gave diet information about an iguana that is almost certain to cause either bone or kidney disease. The stunted adult iguana in question has a massive infection that Dr. Smith proposed to diagnose with a Q-tip up the butt and treat with antibiotics that are either kidney-toxic or not used in reptiles. She seemed to have no idea how to draw blood for a CBC or blood chemistry panel, and had no one to assist her with an x-ray or ultrasound. Do not ever take a reptile patient to Dr. Smith! She may be ok for birds, I don't know.

Jeanne Smith is one of the top bird vets in all of California and yet so personable and available there's no reason to not give your bird the very best.

Dr. Smith not only has a Placerville, CA office, but keeps regular days and hours in Carmichael, CA (the Citrus Hts,m Fair Oaks area) as well. To make it inexcusable to not get your bird vet care when they need it, she makes house calls in these surrounding areas for a remarkably reasonable fee.

This doctor is not only soft spoken and knows what she's doing, but she's one of the most sincere practitioners I've ever met. This isn't just a job for her, it's personal. She honestly cares for each bird she meets, whether it's a chicken or a macaw.

So when your bird really matters - don't take a 'wait and see' stance. That's often a mistake that can cost a life and break your heart.

Vet care is more affordable than you imagine and can be done right at your home. This is the vet to make your own.
