I grew up with my aunt's dog Trigger. My uncle said she ran up to him that morning before the cat scan with a sock in her mouth wanting to play. He dropped her off thinking the worst that could happen was the surgery itself the following day.

I have a few questions for your practice:
1) How can you not notice a dying dog if you claim the room was staffed throughout the entire cat scan?
2) How can you guarantee the safety of other dogs coming in if this has happened?
3) If she did in fact have "low blood pressure", why weren't preventative or proactive measures taken?
4) Why would you knowingly agree placing a 10 year old dog's anesthesia in the hands of an inexperienced tech? Where were you?
5) Did you at least have the decency to disclose what really happened in that room, or did you leave it at "veterinary error"? Did Trigger choke on her own vomit after you and your team pumped her full of so much anesthesia she couldn't breathe? We are at least entitled to the truth no matter how horrible it may be. We have a right to know. I urge you to give my aunt and uncle the peace of mind they deserve, it is the least you can do.
6) You sent back a refund and "veterinary error" fax, as some sort of compensation for Trigger being killed. Are you guys serious?

I pray that this hasn't happened to other dogs and their owners at your clinic and that you will take all necessary measures to ensure this does not ever happen again under your "watch". Otherwise, Trigger will have died in vain. Other people need to be warned about this. There needs to be a higher degree of responsibility and repercussions for incidents like this in veterinary practice. Whoever is responsible for this happening should not be in veterinary practice period if they are this incompetent and careless. I don't care what circumstances there were, there is absolutely no excuse for this happening.

Dr. Ramirez, you were just as responsible for overseeing this surgery as anyone else in that room. Trigger had at least 5 years left. So many people in our family loved Trigger, she was such a good girl. You do not know what you have taken from our family, particularly from my uncle. They were best friends and would walk together down the hill to get the mail every morning.

The fact that you are even continuing to practice after a 100% preventable "veterinary error " resulting in the death of our dog is extremely disturbing. How many others have there been? How many more will there be? We will never forget Trigger, but even more unfortunate, we will never forget how Trigger was killed and how preventable this was. I cry myself to sleep just thinking of her last hours in your hands. I imagine the worst because I don't know what really happened. We have no peace of mind because of this and hate the fact she had to die this way.

I hate the fact that you would rather protect your business and continue to put more people's dogs at risk rather than tell us what truly happened in that room. I think you are just too ashamed to admit what really happened under your watch, and frankly, you should be.

We drove 7 hours to get a can scan for our 11 year old Golden Retriever, who had a non-invasive tumor in her mouth. Otherwise she was in excellent health. We provided current blood tests and all medical records. We dropped her off at about 10:30 am. At 1 they called to tell us she was dead; no reason was provided. Trigger has always responded well to anesthesia. They told us she had a drop in blood pressure in the middle of the x-ray but they chose to continue the procedure and not address this. They put her into recovery in unstable condition. The vet tech said she was with her but we think she was lying. Who would watch a dog die and do nothing? We think they just left her there and we back and find her dead. They did not monitor her bp or heart in recovery, even though they knew she had low blood pressure. They were cranking people in and out and we feel she died of neglect in their hands. We are devastated. Do not go here,

We took our 10 yr 2 month old healthy golden retriever here. They called us 3 hours later to tell us she was dead. Her blood pressure dropped severely during the procedure and they finished the cat scan and put her in recovery with no monitor, where she died. We are devastated. When I asked them not to charge us , they said to write a letter with our concerns, so we did.
This is it.

Dr. Ramirez,

We were asked to write you regarding the death of our dear Trigger dog and our concerns regarding her care with you.

We were referred by Dr. Tammy White. We entrusted Trigger with you for what we assumed was a minor procedure, and although we do realize there is some risk associated with anesthesia, we know it is extremely rare. We are heartbroken, Tom and I, for what we feel was a loss that could have been avoided. We do not understand why she was put into recovery with no blood pressure monitor after her pressure dropped half-way through the procedure, as Dr. Ramirez explained to me on the telephone. or even why you continued the procedure at all when you saw an unusual drop in pressure. From the statistics I have read, 47% of anesthesia related deaths occur in recovery and, if she was not stable when she went there, then we feel she should have been monitored by a machine rather than a person who from looking at her could not tell whether she was asleep or dead. CPR was a last ditch effort to save a dog who was already expired. Nothing was done to save her while she had a chance to survive because she was not monitored properly.

We know there are things that can be done if the doctor is aware of dangerously low pressure, but she was sent to recovery in an unstable condition. We feel that due care was not given and that you moved on to the next patient too quickly and left our dog to die.

Trigger's blood tests were perfect and, as Dr. White indicated in her examination just prior to the procedure had a low heartbeat, and was a healthy dog other than a localized tumor.

Trigger was a loving and happy dog and my darling Tom loved her every minute of every day. She never stopped loving to walk the mile down to our mailbox and woke up every day looking forward to it. Tom has lost his partner in life and I have never known a dog so loved by any man. My heart breaks for him. We have no children. We were trying to do the best we could for Trigger to give her golden years with no pain. We feel that we made a terrible mistake not to even meet the doctor and let him know how important Trigger was to us. You said you would take good care of her, and we trusted you. We arrived back in Bozeman last night, and this morning Tom will not get out of bed. He is lying there crying, "my trigger dog is dead" over and over.

We are heartbroken and hope that you will change your procedures in a situation like this.
Trigger may have been 10 years and 2 months old, but we did not expect to lose her in an x-ray. Our worst thought was that her tumor would be inoperable or she would have been lost in the operation, which has a much higher risk.

Humans make errors and we understand that. We truly believe that Trigger's death was due to a lack of precaution in her case. We really can't know what happened, but if you do, and we think you do, then you should apologize to us for taking away our wonderful companion. As we told Aaron, it is a matter of principle, not money, that we not be charged for you taking away the dearest thing in our lives.
