When is skinny, too skinny?

A girl I know is super skinny and it's starting to really worry me. She's always been thin but now you can see every bone in her body. When I tell her she is too skinny she says she knows and that she eats all the time but can't gain weight. I don't believe it is an eating disorder because she doesn't like when people tell her how skinny she is. My concern is that it is drug related, even though she denies this. How do you know if its drugs, eating disorder, or health problems? How do you know when skinny is too skinny?

Yeah that is what I mean...confront her and do what you have to do with the help of family and friends to get her to see a doctor. Perhaps have a family member talk to a local doc regarding her condition and get some advice beforehand.

Yes that's the issue, she doesn't think she has a problem. I think my first step is going to be, have her go to the doctor to make sure nothing is wrong with her physically that could be causing her to loose weight.

I think the issue is that she won't see a professional.

Have her see a professional...

No I don't see her very often, and probably won't again until Christmas. I have talked to her about it and she knows the entire family is concerned, but she insists she is fine. Other family members are considering confronting her but it's a hard call because we don't know whats wrong with her.

That's a tough one. Is it someone you live with or whose house you go to recently? Maybe you could try to find some drugs on her or in her room. That's kind of sneaky though. Have you told her that you're seriously concerned or is it usually more casual?
