SIX PRINCIPLES OF
PREVENTIVE HOLISTIC Life Style (PHL)



Dr Shahid has summarised his six principles of health in a very simple form. Simplicity sometimes is not politically correct. Well.. if people get the message and decide to live until 100 - 125 years and longer, is not that wonderful? That is what counts. A healthy living of spiritual, mental and physical health, without ever having to see a health care provider is all that counts. Isn't it?

These Principles consist of 3 Dos & three don'ts. Almost everyone who has the slightest knowledge of preventive and healthy life style should know about it. It has been known to humans for centuries. However, it has never been given a chance in a proper fashion. There are many reasons for it. I wont go into this right now. Let me go into detailing about the six principles.

The three Dos are:

1. A Balanced Diet

2. Exercise

3. Sufficient time
for Rest, Sleep & Entertainment

The three Don'ts are:

1. DON'T SMOKE

2. A. Don't overeat, overdrink alcohol & overuse (abuse ) prescribed or unprescribed drugs.
B. Don't undereat, (Voluntarily or involuntarily)..

3.Don't worry

These are all very simple ( a little oversimplified ) six principles of Preventive Holistic Lifestyle (PHL). Let me try to explain every one of these principles & put these in their proper perspective.

1. Balanced Diet.

Your Spiritual, Mental & Physical Health ( SMPH ) is directly proportion to what you eat. What makes a balanced diet is not only what you eat but also how much you eat. Make sure what you are eating is not exceeding the required daily amount according to your body weight & height.

2. Exercise.

One cannot overemphasise the importance of exercise. This is the one most important single factor of long & healthy life. Historically, people who have lived over 100 years, invariably were the most physically active ones. Recent studies have documented categorically that people who exercise regularly are one step ahead of their health care providers. In other words those who exercise regulaly make less frequent visits (or none at all) to their health care providers. One of the greatest advantage of exercise is that it enhances your immune system & therefore, increases your ability to fight illness.

3. Sufficient time for Rest, Sleep & Entertainment (RSE).

In our fast & rapid pace of daily living, we have lost sight of proper RSE. Admittedly there is not sufficient time left with us after the usual daily activities to maintain a healthy balance between work & RSE. It is a very well known medical fact that people who work work & work ( also known as workaholic ) die very fast.


THE THREE DON'TS


1. DON'T SMOKE.

Fortunately, everyone knows that,

" Cigarette smoking is dangerous to your health. "

But unfortunately, smoking is still the the highest ( as much as 47% ) in third world countries. It is impossible to count the ways by which smoking undermines human health. It is one of the most dreadful illness next to AIDS. As we all know AIDS is
result of immune deficiency caused by a virus. Smoking results in Immune deficiency & thereby is no less lifelimiting than AIDS. Fortunately both these AIDS ( one caused by virus & the other caused by smoking ) are preventable.

2. A. Don't overeat, overdrink alcohal & overuse (abuse ) prescribed or unprescribed drugs.
B. Don't undereat, (Voluntarily or involuntarily).

While eating is essential for life & balaned diet is essential for health, overeating is deadly. It leads to obesity which in turns leads to multitudes of disease. Few of the illnesses steming from obesity are heart disease, high blood pressure, diabetes mellites, strokes, fracrures, lack of mobility & many more. It is much better to leave the table before your stomach is full.

Drinking alcohol is not so dangerous ( some studies even demonstrate the beneficial affect of moderate drinking ) as the
overdrinking is. Overuse of alcohal not only destroy the liver but also destroys the brain eventually.

Drugs ( prescribed or unprescribed ) have been used for centuries for various puposes.
In present era drugs have become controversial topic even in medicine. For some unknown reason medical and pharmaceutical authorities have given too much importance to the drugs than the medical literature has proven it to be. Nevertheless, overuse ( Abuse ) of any substance ( even legally prescribed) is undeniably detrimental to health.

3. Don't Worry.

Worry is one of the most harmfull thing ever to be evolved in humans. No one knows how we became victim to this horrible disease in the process of evolution. Animals are not known to worry about anything. It is only a human thing. And it serves no good purpose. All the consequences of worry are dangerous to SMPH ( spiritual, mental &
physical health).

So here we are. The six principles of long & healthy life.

The secret of all of this is to follow these principles religiously and faithfully to obtain the full spiritual, mental & physical benefits of living a healthy life (100 - 125 years and longer), without ever having to see a health care provider..
