D IS FOR PAIN RELIEF

Don’t tell someone with Fibromyalgia syndrome (FMS) that thechronic pain and fatigue they endure is not treatable. Traditional medicine isfinally catching up to what alternative medical practitioners have known for awhile, that there are things you can do to reduce the symptoms of FMS.

A recent study revealed that vitamin D supplements canreduce pain and may be a cost-effective supplement to other treatment, such asphysical therapy.

In addition to pain and fatigue, patients with FMSexperience sleep disorders, morning stiffness, poor concentration, andmild-to-severe anxiety or depression.

Researchers found that vitamin D supplements can reduce thedegree of chronic pain experienced by FMS patients with low levels of calcifediol.Raising the calcifediol levels in patients can alleviate pain and cause ageneral improvement.

In this controlled treatment study, the group using VitaminD supplements improved significantly on a scale of physical role functioning, while the placebo group remained unchanged. The treatment group also scoredsignificantly better on a Fibromyalgia Impact Questionnaire (FIQ) on thequestion of "morning fatigue."

FMS is a very complicated issue that cannot be explained bya vitamin D deficiency alone. But vitamin D supplementation may be regarded asa relatively safe and economical treatment for FMS patients and acost-effective alternative to expensive and often intrusive pharmacologicaltreatments.
