Californians need help

by Neil
Out here in San Diego we have been inhaling smoke for several days and will probably be breathing filthy air for a week or 2 before things get better. Does anyone have any suggestions or things we can do to help clear out our lungs and detox?

Also help me out with this one. There is smoke in the air as far as the eye can see. Ash is falling from the sky. Schools are closed. Businesses are closed. People are being told to stay indoors and avoid physical activity. The air quality in some places could not get any worse yet there are still people out jogging!! What the heck are those people thinking? Do they not realize the irreversible harm they may be doing to their lungs? Are they just oblivious? Maybe they don't have a tv or a radio. Perhaps they are training for the coal miners marathon. Here's what I think. They are just morons. Complete idiots. Please someone enlighten me or help knock some sense into these people.

I was born in NYC and have lived in Minnesota, Ohio, Georgia and now my final stop...Southern California. That’s enough for now.

How is the air out there now?

I think people who jog have an addiction that needs to be filled regardless of the circumstances. The high they get is worth the risk, to them. There is no understanding it unless you live it. I have one for you along the same lines. One of my bands played a show this past Sunday (6 days after the San Diego fires started) at Barona Casino. Barona is in Lakeside CA, right next to Ramona which was one of the areas hardest hit by the fires. As a matter of fact, though many local businesses were open as soon as Wednesday of this past week, Barona was unable to open until Saturday because of the imminent threat posed by the fires and the road closures. We played the next day. As bad as the air has been, it did not compare with the thick blanket of cigarette smoke that wrapped itself around you when you walked into the casino. Felt worse to me than any of the fire days. The air was much better outside than inside. This is not a slight on the casino, which treats us very well, but the patrons who have an unstoppable compulsion for self-inflicted damage. It's nothing new. It just stood out this time after such a difficult week. I found myself doing an inordinate amount of people watching. Probably a lot of judging too, which isn't fair. I suppose people have a right to whatever pleasures they choose to pursue and it's none of my business.
