Concept of Personal Care Communities on Wellness.com

Thanks Greta, TMorros, Walknred, B Your Best, Beth:

Nice responses. I would hope that Congress does address the private insurance market and make it more competitive as, at the moment, local insurance companies capture vast amounts of revenue and are more interested in their investments than patient care it would seem. They outsource any preventive measures to far distant companies that offer nurses making telephone calls, and then think that a bunch of glossies and telephone calls from afar can get people to be more preventive.

Hogwash! Anything that is dictated more than one level from the patient is wasted. I could care less about the national debate. Bureaucracy is the scourge of the human race as bureaucrats are often strong on arrogance and short on performance. These bureaucrats can be government or insurance. What difference does it make?

Me? I am going to focus on medical nutrition and vascular health. 80% of what the government spends money is directly related to these issues: strokes, heart attacks, many cancers, diabetes and so forth. It has to do with vascular health and inflammation within micro arteries.

The answer is personal care. The answer is personal care within communities to support healthier behaviors and healthier relations and greater meaning in work and play.

In my opinion, primary care physicians should make this kind of initiatives number one. But, there is no training or emphasis on behavior, nutrition, stress management and the like. Government, insurance companies, and conventional physician practices (4-6 mins per patient average) all are upside down on prevention and wellness.

That is why a training course in Personal Care Leadership, zip coded communities with their resources, and like minded practitioners are the answer I believe. How does change happen? It happens because, with some tools and education and people who care about you, that "little engine" starts towards better nutrition, active fitness, and acquiring skills of healthy relationships at work and play.

We just need to have resources in nutrition, like minded practitioners, restaurants, food stores, etc all within our own Personal Care Websites in every zip community. On our website, we need to have good information, recommended practices, and access to resources that are beyond a particular zip. Still, in each of these zip communities we need teachers on Personal Care Leadership. That is already starting.

In my experience people do want to be better; but it is so hard and the system does not help much. In fact, the system blames the patient for (e.g.) obesity and all other behaviors as an excuse to justify status quo of disease care and not change.

So we create our own system. Does all this make sense? Can we start with 89511 and areas? McGee

BYB; YES,YES,YES ......these are the types of conversations that I know will engage Wellness.com subscribers: how can we formulate the PCC site so that we may delineate different topics of discussion concurrently?? We have so many opportunities to garnish expert advice, personal testimonies & forward thinking notions; yet we can not co-mingle them all under 1 generic umbrella. A "topic" specific venue is in order, do you think?? My friends, colleagues, & professional partners are being held at bay until such time that they are afforded the opportunity to chime in on "their" area of expertise &/or concern...we can not solicit colaboration until we are able to clearly define the boundries surrounding different topics of discussion Dr. Don, your thoughts???

How about.....What are Fatty Acids and Why are They So Important? Fatty acids are critical to our well being. Think of fatty acids as the "bricks" in our cell walls that keep foreign molecules, viruses, yeasts, fungi and bacteria outside and all our cellular protoplasm inside. Fatty Acids are essential in every cell of your body. Without them life is impossible. When they are deficient, we suffer from a wide variety of health issues.

Hi Don, Katie et al, Thank you for the the input: what if we were to start a thread w/some simple constructs about what exactly phospho-lipids, nutracueticals & medical Herbalism is all about: simple deffinitions, differences between a generic product & a quality one, and some examples surrounding contra-indications between "Allopathic" Meds. & Herbs/Vits.?? We could author some weekly "tips to the wise", questions patients need to ask their Docs., and warnings about certain Meds./vits./herbal supplements w/respect to certain conditions/dieases. In this way we can begin to "personalize" people's healthcare regime & begin to create a starting point, as you say, about Full Spectrum Wellness. Now we have a specific topic off of which we can jump......g

Greta, Good thinking! Full Spectrum wellness begins with the a decision....toward self responsibility and love. Self-responsibility and love establish a life-context in which knowledge and freedom can be used to enable informed free choice. It is going to be even more important as time progresses to be informed about the health care choices we may be asked to make. I am happy to begin the conversation from this context.

Hi Don, How can we begin to segment areas of concern for our readers? There are so many folks looking for answers to the questions you posed above. People are desperately searching for a 1-stop information source that they can call "Home". Could we start off w/a singular topic, let's say "Herbal Medicine" for example. Run the blog, invite experts in the field & give it a sub-title under PCC which would make it easier for general public to navigate?? Next, what if touched upon Personal Health Records Held on line: run that thread & sub-title it so that when people search "Wellness.com" they are then directed to that particular blog. Healthcare reform, Medical Tourism, Direct to Physician access etc........what are your thoughts??? greta
