Welcome to the Personal Care Community (PCC) Vol 1 No 1

Personal Evolution | Health & Wellness | Cost Savings | Quality of Life

FOUNDATION STATEMENT

My name is Donald McGee, MD, PhD and I am a co-founder Physician of Wellness.com along with Ranya Alexander , MD, PhD. I'm a Physician with a PhD in Health Studies who is trying to make a difference in our health care primarily by supporting prevention in a broad sense. This means that Wellness and Prevention have to do with all aspects of being human: mind-body-spirit; relationships; work; and personal time. I bring you this section in Wellness.com to help us form a community of people and groups working together to make life better, more meaningful, and cost effective.

Health is personal. It cannot be dictated by Congress, the President, insurance companies, or even our own physician. Everybody needs to collaborate, but ultimately it is the person and his or her family and close friends that bring about effective changes in the way we think, behave, eat, exercise, manage stress, and enjoy our relationships. I do not have all the answers, but I seek a collaboration of those who care to seek a disciplined path to find some answers and resources for individual health and growth.

I also argue that a healthy body -- or not -- just defines a small segment of wellness. True wellness is about consciousness, goodwill, good works, and always seeking personal evolution. Appearance can be skin deep they say and I think that is true. True wellness is about whom we are; what we stand for; what we do.

I will invite you to blog to help define this community and I will invite guests on a regular basis to blog with me over salient topics. As we go along, we will section many of the discussions, but I also am looking for resources approved by the community. Anyone willing to expose themselves and their services or products to the ratings of the community, I invite you to contact us at contact@wellness.com to place your product, service or book in front of the community.

The common demoninator for the Personal Care Community as I see it is seeking of Full Spectrum Wellness and helping each other build commitment and accountability. Physician as personal care consultant is forward thinking. It requires a leadership approach where the physician and patient are in partnership not in a dominant subordiante structure.

Thank you BYOURBEST. Maybe you can tell me how we use the Personal Care Community like other people use Utube, Facebook, or that twitter thing but over topics of wellness and personal health and growth? I can imagine a lot of mature people of all ages interested in themes a little deeper than emotional sensation or reactiveness, and more on capturing what really is important: meaning in work and play, relationships, and exploration of a Higher Purpose. I do not have all the answers, but that is the point, is it not? The Individual Journey is the answer and the wrong path is expecting someone else to have the answers in your life. This includes your physician, counselor, priest, celebrities, and so forth. I think the best role for a primary care physician, for example, is to be a health guide and resource, not a potentate. Thoughts?

This personal care blog can really help send a message on the best way to shape the future of our health care system. I encourage all to get in on the conversation Dr. McGee has started.

Greta; thanks for your comment. I see a web service such as ours becoming a place where a person and his or her family can orchestrate a preventive program in medical nutrition, healthy fitness, learn about healthy relationships, and finding meaning in work and play. I see turning a zip coded area into a Community resource area and have members find and rank their local services; such as restaurants, fitness events and programs, and so forth, while we find reputable experts worldwide to bring in educational services about all the “soft systems” of human living. I am talking about relationships and meaning. This Community is for the consumer and the employer health services to work on common goals and making the consumer as the center of decision making. It is a different paradigm than waiting in the doctor’s waiting room for an hour and having your health plan tell you want you can and can not do. Let us use this blogging now as a design tool; a form of human science research where we design our webbased solutions. Don.

I am grateful to be a part of the wellness community and I agree with you in that we are personally responsible for our health and well-being. I look forward to helping our community understand their pain better. I have more than 18 yrs experience in personal pain due to auto accidents and 9 years of medical massae therapy and natural healing. I have been able to assist alot of people to better health naturally using these modalities and helping them realize their part in the healing process. Thank you for this opportunity. Kimberly Reaves A New U! Healing Arts Center Jacksonville, FL Thanks for your interest. Interesting in this national debate they are talking about power plays with trillions of dollars, when the best answer I believe is putting this power into the hands of the consumers to direct their own health care. I have found some people will complain about co pays when they feel entitled, yet spend thousands on beauty enhancements. Instead of passive entitlements leading to passive inaction, what about active consumer demand? I would like to attract to the community people of all walks of life who want to command their own health care and on a more equal basis with their doctors and hospitals. More important, I would like to attract to the community small corporations and benefit managers who see it the same way. Health is still personal. Ideas? Donald
