Personal Care Community - Vol 1 No 4

In Answer to Greta's comment from the previous section:

I have no idea what congress is going to do. All I know is that unless these monies are taken to a PERSONAL LEVEL, they will not result in prevention and wellness. For example, Farmers' Markets (which are in the bill) are fine, but the person and his or her "play group" (as I call it) need to make it "their" market. It needs to be a cultural event. How is the bill going to do that? What if a local personal care community interested in obesity and diabetes went to a Grocery Store and orchestrated it themselves while leaving the bureaucrats and their salaries out of it? That market can be show cased on Wellness.com, and we can spread the word around!

In other words, what ideas I have heard about health and wellness with the national bills seems more like a "wish list" of some non-health provider than any seriously researched plan that will make a difference with the money we throw at it. In my opinion, a national top down approach may work for a military system but not for personal care.

Everybody deserves a safety net for serious illnesses and injury. But Wellness even in the face of disease and stress is about choices and personal decisions. The best service Wellness.com can do is offer powerful web based solutions so a person and family can design and structure their own wellness design.

And to that end, it is about finding meaning in life (a higher purpose), finding meaning in work and play, and striving for healthy relationships. From this foundation food behaviors, family behaviors, work behaviors, and so forth can flow forth as people support each other like "buddies in a fox hole."

I doubt anyone will listen to us in Washington. It is more important that we start listening to each other on Wellness.com and let a true web based solution to health and wellness emerge, regardless of well meaning but basically naïve bureaucrats far away. Don McGee

In my opinion what Don McGee is really talking about is shared context. With all of this jibber jabber about healthcare, insurance, single payor, freedom and choice "we the people" lack a critical thing...shared context. What is the best healthcare? What constitutes the right insurance benefits? What if you want to pay as you go and you can afford to do so....what if you can't? Bottom line is we need to preserve our citizens health and our nations wealth. Wellness.com says it all. We need our citizens to be well as long as they can be and our nation to be as well as the future allows it to become. The conversations that we are having on Wellness.com are conversations that matter. Please join in.
